Favorite missile

So after reading the Deadeye topic I've been thinking about how I would use it in a build with some Green Squadron Pilots. A GSP with deadeye comes at 20 points and I can't decide what would be the best overall missile to take. I'm leaning towards homing since you don't actually have to spend the focus and can use it on modifying the dice. Thoughts?

Best missile? Chardaan refit.

I like Homing because you still have the Focus token to assist your roll, but Concussion has the nice benefit too.

Homing.

Assault missile, but that's mainly because the guy I usually battle uses TIE swarms.

So I think for my 1st IA event I may run 3 GSP's with Dead eye and Homing missle and bring Arvel for 98 points. Should be a fun list to fly but it definitely isn't what I would call economical lol. I'm paying 18 points for a 12 attack dice that can only be used once. If the alpha strike goes well I should be able to fly circles around most anything and ram Arvel straight down there throat, looking at you falcons! But if the dice gods don't favor me it will be a major uphill battle!

Cluster missiles. Double the fun!

Chardaan refit

The missile of choice depends on the target. Or on your own identity.

huge ships: cluster or ion pulse

small/large ships without evade: concussion

small/large ships with evade: homing

tight formations: assault (risky; lowest probability to hit)

with reroll (predator, jonus): cluster

Blount: assault, perhaps ion pulse

A-Wing: Chardaan

Rhymer: APT (not a missile but close)

My favourite missile is an Assault missile that hits! :D

Magic

Obviously each has a unique use where it shines the most.... However, overall I like concussion the best. It is simple, easy to use, and you don't get totally screwed if you aren't able to focus, since it lets you convert a blank die into a hit.

However if I'm going for an ordinance build, I usually include Captain Jonus and then by default I'll go with Cluster Missiles - because they work WAYYY better if you have Jonus.

If I am doing a multiplayer game, an Assault Missile works really well, since I know I'm likely to have large groups together. Assault Missile is also good if I'm running very few ships, like maybe only 2 ships - I have less chance of hitting my own ships with it.

Homing is by far my least favorite. I hate Homing. Homing missile can go take a jump off a cliff.

I'm a big homing Missile fan. It almost always nets a good amount of damage when I spend the TL. It has that added bonus of working through evades as well, which is nice!

Given the polarization on the homing missile, is that because Crabbock is usually the target of them, or because they might not be worth the 5 points.

I suppose it's better for rebels against imperials, given that the latter have more opportunities to use evade tokens.

I've been toying with an idea for a little while of adding the following to one of my lists:

Green Squadron Pilot (19)
Adrenaline Rush (1)
Assault Missiles (5)
Deadeye (1)
A-Wing Test Pilot (0)

Total: 26

The idea would be that the A-Wing sticks with your formation until contact with the enemy, then 5 K-Turns behind their formation while your ships slow roll. The A-Wing burns Adrenaline Rush to clear the stress and takes a focus action (since he's probably not the last ship to move and you want target selection). This way you unload the assault missile into the back of their formation and have a nimble craft in their danger zone.

I'm not entirely certain it's a viable plan yet, but it does seem an interesting idea. As I said, I've been playing with the concept. Might be better to ditch Deadeye and go PTL and forgo target selection in favor of Focused Assault Missiles.

Cluster all the way!

with the sheer amount of green on an A-Wing dial, you're better off taking PtL. Deadeye will be 1 use only, but you can PtL to TL and focus on the turn you want to launch your missiles.

That is my usual way of thinking but the advantage of dead eye is that you can fire without a target lock, you don't telegraph as much about your target, and it's easier to get a good shot with such a low ps.

Use the most: Concussion Missiles

Hate the most: Cluster Missiles (can't usually seem to actually hit anything with them)

Looking to use more: Assault Missiles in Epic, since my opponent seems to favor flying Biggs alongside it. Plan the approach well, and I can get three bombers AMs off at the transport, slam it for massive damage, and take Biggs into his full without ever having to even fire at him, which should make him easy to mop up when the time comes.

assuming you live long enough.

Proton Rocket, I have never failed with it yet.

Flechette Torps. Cheap and effective and pretty great on a Bomber.

From there Ion Missiles aren't bad, but it strikes me as odd that Ion cannons and Ion Missiles cost the same...

And Advanced Proton Torpedos are beastly with the right setup.

Assault missile, but that's mainly because the guy I usually battle uses TIE swarms.

It does a nice number on Biggs, too - a couple of assault missiles will strip the shields off any X-wings sheltering under bigg's defensive umbrella...

Nothing says hello better than a Conc. Missile to the canopy.
