I now own eleven ships, and I am already struggling to find places to keep them. How do you store your ships? Does anyone have ideas for easy/inexpensive storage options? Thanks.
What do you use to store your ships?
Some people buy Plano tackle boxes to store their ships, however you can run into issues as your collection expands and you end up having to buy several such storage containers. I bought a aluminium case from the hardware store and the kep them in their blisters inside that. This worked up until I got to around 30 ships and cost $30AUD.
I'm at a similar place as you. I've got 4 rebel craft and 7 imperials.
I just found some cheap plastic containers from Goodwill, that I've put some foam scraps into that I've carved and glued to match the shapes of the miniatures. I've got one for the rebels and another for the imperials. Then I have a special container - actually a tie pouch - for my range ruler, maneuver templates, dice, damage cards, etc.
All this is nice and compact, so I can pop it in my back pack with my work stuff, so I can carry it with me on my bicycle.
Most of the people in my area seem to have tool or tackle boxes, however, because they have fewer size restrictions.
Plano 732, was difficult to get hold of in the UK, but I had it imported from Spain. It's a bit big but that makes it future proof, I fit all my rebels in one tray and Imps in another and still have expansion room, even for the Tantive when it arrives.
I've got a Plano 732 as well. I've got one of each expansion and a couple of extra B-wings. The transport fits nicely in one of the trays, but I have a special spot planned for the Tantive IV.
A fellow player who also has a Plano 732 found a tray from a modular kitchen drawer organizer that fits snugly in the indentation in the back of the box. I believe the Corvette will fit in the tray with its plastic. And in between games, I use the tray to transport my minis and other bits and bobs.
All I need to do is finish drilling a couple of holes and threading some paracord to secure the tray in place. It's going to be great.
Plano 732 .
I can't stress this enough. Future proof.
Spend the money now and get it. Yes its big, but you can get extra boxes and change them out to suit your needs.
Besides, do you really want to be that guy with a wimpy little box that makes a little tinkle sound when you set it down?
OR ! Do you want the satisfying sound of the hammer of thor shaking the room when you bring this case into the room ?
Be a man damnit !!!
Get a plano 732. Lol.
I use that starter set box, one that I bought and one that a friend bought. I Just stick in the ships in one of the plastic sections and away I go. Of my 3 B-wings, 1 of them has a complete gun left on it.
I bought my blue ones at Canadian Tire
I'll chime in and say I love my Plano 732. I did as mentioned above, and have extra cases that I swap in and out.
I just purchased a Plano 1374 today. Same deal as the 732, but I think it may hold more. Has 4 removable trays, so I am hoping 'expanding' is just a case of buying more trays to change what I have loaded each outing and going that way.
Cheers
battle foam shield bag... at the time i was going to MAKE my own the shield bag was cheaper!!! comparing prices for foam, box AND my time and having to cut the foam which would NEVER be as good as laser cutting... just saying do a full cost benefit analysis and then choose....
Edited by SwedgeI'm leaning toward battle foam but waiting for it to have wave 4 ships.

am doing the same thing but will be getting another shield bag so i will have one bag for each faction. just wondering how much space the CR-90 is going to take up!!!! IF it even fits!!! The neat thing about battle foam is the ability to stack multiple ships in one slot... Ys stack really nice...
Battle foam PACK 720. I also play hordes, but I have 2 trays for X-wing. Going to need to get another tray for wave 4 ships though. I am glad I went with the PACK 720. Between the huge ships and epic format and a spot for my plano full of tokens it might get full just from X-wing.
I use a old black GW minis case. One for all my small and medium ships and now one for all my epic ships. Works great, and I've had them for years, or aquired them in trades a long time ago. I have room for probably 50+ ships in it.
Until I got a load of ships I used a simple toolbox and kept all the ships in their blister packs.
Now I use this Feldherr backpack which is great for traveling with your fleet. The toolbox now holds my GR-75 and CR90.
I made a little card caddie for the massive number of upgrades.
Then I made little clips to pair target locks and numbers together
Ok, how did you do the little clips? I think I can see how the box goes together but the clips are too small to make out.

How did you manufacture that? 3D-printing?
Wow, I actually have an empty Stanley version of that and this looks so phenomenal I might give it a try.
I use one of those Army Transport bags.Trying to condense ships in the pluck foam is getting to be a bother, thanks goodness Z-95's have the same top down profile as X-wings!
They are 3D printed
I've got a Battle Foam PACK 432.

I think I'll finally put the money up for one of these after wave 4 and the CR-90 specs are uploaded to Battlefoam.
