thinking about F&D beta.

By oriondean, in General Discussion

So, that was an explosion of pages...! Here I leave work to go to the gun range for an hour, have a pizza with my sister and a drink, and you guys go all crazy! Good work!

I'm liking what I read, perhaps not all of it, perhaps a tad disappointed about some things, but I should withhold judgement until I have a copy to read.

So we have double lightsabers, and Unwieldy - which I like. Although... is anything stated about the possibility that double lightsaber can be separated into two lightsabers? Or perhaps a mention of Sunder and when the double becomes a single? I mean, I know all of this is possible in the system with ease, but I'm just wondering about written suggestions in this regard.

In the Edge of the Empire beta there was a Force rating chart does Force and a destiny have a Force rating chart?

Any unispecs?

Could someone elaborate some on the "make inquisitor rules" that is supposedly in the book?

Loads of interesting info, F&D seems to be very well done. I tried to download the pdf posted before but i can't read it, opening it all the pages are black with no text.Does anyone else have the same problem?

I m really psyched about the beta book.

compared to the non-Force wielders

One day I'd still really like to see a game that doesn't need to serve any masters other than being a really good Jedi game. Oh well. Maybe on the next go around.

I could read it but it was heavy as Bantha after supper :P

I really, really liked stuff that was in it.

Someone made the full beta document available apparently.

I'm conflicted here....

Love almost all the book but, the one thing that don't sit well with me is that only one specialty can deflect back at the shooter.

i mean we see it all the time in the clone wars and the prequel movies from all Jedi's so why just the one spec.

That's a shame, but we understand.

Bye!

I get the point, I think that maybe it's just that we follow a "family tree" of jedi, their training is all based on the same philosophy as Yoda is the grand trainer of that time and he seems to favour this particular skill deflection and defence. I'm spitballing here... I don't know.

oh I get that there is a flavor thing going on but in game terms all you've done is create a golden spec(a spec that every Jedi player is going to have) which kills the create a unique Jedi vibe.

And Yoda is an Ataru master if i remember correctly lol

Why do you equate Law and Chaos with Light and Dark, respectively?

I was thinking the same thing. Empire = Law, Ewoks = Chaos :) As far as "law" goes, Jedi are somewhat neutral provided there is harmony, and harmony can be pretty complicated...

Still, a game where they just said 'this time out we are not supporting non-Jedi characters so as to be able to focus on providing the best possible Jedi gaming experience' would be a great thing to see.

Well looking at it Ataru Striker seems to be... Well a tad bit OP... It has both reflect and parry, something maybe all the lightsaber trees should have, merging the two makes sense. If I can parry a bolt of concentrated plasma moving with the speed of a bullet I can probably parry your sword.

Three things about the scans posted earlier in the thread:

1) Not only are there Talent Trees without 'Force Rating +1', there are a few without 'Dedication!' That blows my mind a little.

2) You get the Force Rating from the Careers (as previously mentioned). Which means that if you want a non F&D character to use any of these Specializations, you're looking at a minimum of three Specializations: your EoTE or AoR starter; Force-Sensitive Exile or Emergent (20 XP); the Spec. from F&D (40 XP). No wonder the EU was so convoluted... they had to retcon in a whole bunch of extra adventures for Luke to get him the requisite XP!

3) This is awesome, and I'm probably going to skip AoR to get F&D (next year).

Maybe one day, eh Erik?

Fingers crossed.

Still, it was nice knowing you.

Bye-bye!

1) there are only 2 spec without Dedication and they both have 2 force rating traits so it balances nicely
2) yep or you could just say if you don't have a force rating you gain one when you pickup the spec
3) im a completist lol

Perhaps a rule set for using action figures? I'm sure you could make that yourself really, you seem to have all the answers about how it should be.

You can run/play a game using F&D. Start with +500XP. Obviously the Careers and Specializations cover playing Jedi characters.

This is a narrative system so you can go nuts describing your characters achievements and interpreting dice pools any way you like so you can make the game the way you like it.

One question. Force Push/Slam is...? Move?

One question. Force Push/Slam is...? Move?

yes and no hope that helps lol

I'm curious, what about the Adversaries chapter? Any cool bad guys listed there?

"Makashi finish"

"Hawk Bat Swoop"

"Saber Swarm"

"Sarlacc Sweep"

What's sad is that I actually recognize all of those saber techniques from the time when I stated all seven forms to the "7 Seas" fencing system. /sigh /humblebrag

That's because blaster bolt reflection is part of Form V, the form Luke and Vader use in the original trilogy. It is a very popular form in that era. Also, most masters know 2-3 lightsaber forms and mix them freely in fights.
