The Waldorf Dynasty

PF: 24 SP: 73

Coming from an ancient and proud house that had its founding in the aftermath of the Horus Heresy and with holdings in multiple other sectors of the Imperium.

The Waldorf branch first came to the Calyx Expanse a century before the Crusade, establishing itself at the time in the region today known as the Spinward Front (Periphery sub-sector) claiming a lost industrialized pre-imperial human colony - Aethius.

Later, the Aethius colony became a large resupply/repair hub in the region for the later Severus Dynasty's and Angevin Crusade's invasion forces, even boasting an orbital shipyard and multiple manufactorum compounds on the ground. Assistance provided to IG regiments and IN fleets drained it of resources and held it back from expanding as much as the Severus House, but until this day are remembered and grant the Waldorf family favors concessions rarely provided to other Rogue Traders.

With the secession of the Severan Dominate in recent years, Lord Captain & Holder of the Waldorf Warrant of Trade Fitzwilliam Astor Macfadyen Waldorf XV was struck by enemies from all sides and scores of Dynastic trade routes falling to Dark Eldar, Severan and Ork raids. Standing his ground and calling in all favors that possibly could've, no more than an year had passed before the entire subsector had fall into complete chaos and the Dynasty's possessions reduced to Aethius (by then a promising proto-forgeworld), Traianus - a mining-manufactorum habitable moon in the Drusus Marches - and small fleet composed of Waldorf's ancient flagship and only 2 other warp-capable voidships:

- The "Ascension", an ancient Dictator-class cruiser;

- The "Calyx Hammer", a Mass Conveyor troops/arms transport;

- The "Red Viper", a Cobra-class torpedo-boat escort.

Eventually, a large Ork Fleet of Waagh Grimtoof closed in on the Aethius System and despite Imperial Navy reinforcements, the planet could hardly be evacuated in time by the Hammer and its - now crippled - escort. Until his last moments Lord Captain Fitzwilliam Astor Macfadyen Waldorf XV stood defiant with the Ascension, holding back the Ork kill-kroozas while keeping the failing Navy fleet from breaking apart.

Shot through his heart, while leading personally his forces against boarders he didn't live to see when the Calyx Hammer had finally reached the system's jumping point. He didn't live to know that his lady and lover, Lady Captain Elanor Nikolaevna Peterhof Waldorf had also just succumbed mere moments before him in a grievous strike that decapitated the Red Viper.

With all hope lost, two Waldorf Rogue Traders now with the Emperor and Aethius reporting rok landings and orbital bombardment, the order was given for the Ascension to retreat (strangely, by its navigator) and for all ships to abandon the fight.

Two years later, the Waldorf Dynasty - reduced to handful of ships and Traianus (now considered a proto forgeworld by the administratum) - is now under a new leadership and celebrating its' heir coming of age...

Like the Severan tie-in!

Are they really lost?

The Priests are asking the God-Emperor guidance for their souls....
But who is going to guide me? I should pray too.
Everyone is telling me to be strong - as if I had the choice of being weak.

I close my eyes and all I can imagine is my father there, bleeding, standing strong until the end.

Everyone say that the captain must sink with the ship - he was Lord-Captain Waldorf and for that He had to do what he did. Face death and be brave. He played the part. I shall do the same.

Out there, the void is waiting for me. All I want is to head to the Spinward Front and make them all burn.
REVENGE for each of the souls they stole from us. REVENGE for all they took from me! Ill make them pay one by one.

I will make them suffer.

Father where are you? Have you met Mother?
I had a dream last night and it was so vivid I saw you fighting to save mother. You failed again.
Orks! Orks everywhere! That smell everywhere! That noise!

Is that the ruinous powers trying to play with me? I could feel something there by my side.
I screamed and the guards ran inside the room. There was nothing in here.

I am not you. I will not fail all this people that needs me.
I will make you proud. As you always said, the Emperor will always be there looking for me. I can not fail.
They are not going to get me.

Sebastian is coming to join me and give me the final report about our losses. I know its not going to be pretty.
What am I going to do to fix this dynasty?
A formal dinner is happening in three days, I did not know we had so many plates or servants...
Maybe I should use this opportunity to show them I am strong. That they can count on me.

Journal of Master Helmsman and Flight Marshal Jacob "Jack" Passer - Entry #1

I won’t write this sh*t daily, but I’m kinda bored right now from calibrating macro-batteries.

I don’t know why I accepted this job as the ship's Voidmaster, this leadership thing is hard - lots of fancy dinners and sh*t. And yet, I wish that was my only concern - the title.

I guess every title comes with dangers, and some of the most dangerous of all dangers - politics. I’m a simple pilot. I was not born to attend a dinner and then right after it run back to my ship and launch shark boats point blank - as if I was handling the macro-batteries - into someone else's docked ship (even though Krawkin ******* deserved it).

What about that deathcult assassin in our ship? How could I let him escape using a **** Argus!

And did you know orks are like plants? Those mothaf*cking killing machines are like flowers! I didn't knew it until the techpriests informed us the food in the supply vaults were infested/sabotaged with them!

And what the hell were those last warp travels?I know I should be used to it, but I’m not. I’m a simple man.

And what was that demon-ghost-machines-witch-cursed planet? Man, thanks the God Emperor I’m not an astropath or something with psychic powers and ****.

Well, I think I liked this writing ****.

Hopefully I can leave something of use for those whom may come after me - for when I retire, not die.
Next time I get this drunk again while waiting for the tech priests finish their consecrating of sh*t, I’ll write again.
PS.: always travel in ships using the “Strelov” warp engine, not the one with adventure-mode:on - I guess Miloslav was the name.
