so at what point do you consider dice rolling cheating?

By Torresse, in X-Wing

I know some people who will roll the dice badly (maybe not on purpose), drop by mistake or over obstacles so it is likely to land cocked. They then re-roll it...unless it landed nicely for them in which case they don't re-roll it. Basically gives you a free re-roll if you need it.

Something I will watch closer for next time, maybe bring it up at the start of the game. Don't like to be confrontational, but also don't like to be treated like an idiot.

Any dice that doesn't end flat on the table gets re-rolled. Easy rule.

I always learned, If you can place another dice on top it isn't cocked. But that skews things with non D6's. I agree though, never let anybody take an inconsistant strategy to cocked rolls. That's cheating. For sure. Call the TO and make them set a standard.

Likewise with on the ground / off the table... You reroll all of them or none of them. My suggestion is reroll all because when they go UNDER the table, it's difficult to see what it is.

Nah. You keep the dice as they were except the ones that left the table. Stick to the original roll as much as possible. But hitting dice on the table doesn't change them.

I don't trust electric dice. Not enough physics, too much clock.

Years ago, before D&D 4th ed and it's dungeon program, there was this 3rd party program that you could buy.

It was a full mapping interface, that people could play P&P over the internet "Host/Client" style.

Anyways, it had 3D dice of all #s that you could select the amount you wish to roll and click & hold to "grab" them

then moved your mouse, release mouse, and would throw them.

How about an independent dice roller with his/her own dice?

So the players turn up with their ships and cards, but every table has someone standing beside it with his own red and green FFG sanctioned dice. Since this person isn't there to play the games, doesn't know anyone and couldn't give a rats fuzzy bottom who wins or loses he/she has no reason to cheat since they've nothing to gain. In fact, it is their job to be there to roll dice for the players and if they favor one player over another and roll unfairly they get fired.

Just a thought to keep everyone happy.

Herm... and at mimumum wage of ~7.50/hr (varies by state)... a 64 player regional with 6 rounds, and then a cut to top 8 would mean that 32 people are rolling dice for 9hrs, and then 4 for 1.5hrs, 2 for 1.5hrs, 1 for 1.5hrs... For a total cost of $2,238.75! Over 64 players... Entry fees have now risen from ~15 to ~50 dollars! But no fear, no one is cheating with dice techniques to increase the number of hits they roll by 2-3 over the course of the game.

Beyond that, any of you dice destruction maniacs want to test and see if the core set dice have bubbles?

And then let me just slip the pimple-y high school kid a 6 pack, and promise him another when I win... Still think it's worth it?

Ah shucks!

You had to go and ruin a perfectly good idea with sensible answers.

Is this still really going on? I'm tired about cheating threads....let us talk about flowers of alderaan instead

Obviously there is only one way to solve this issue. We shall remove dice from the game and elect an X-Wing Randomization High Tribunal.

Whenever you need to make a roll in X-Wing, you shall mail a missive to the High Tribunal. They shall review your case and determine what your roll shall be. A representative of the High Tribunal will be dispatched to your game to give you the High Tribunal's results.

Problem solved.

What is your favorite species?

What does it look like?

Did it survive the destruction of Alderaan?

Does it have a good scent?

Does it have edible or medicinal properties and if so what are they?

Well, most of the native species are extinct, so this isn't my favorite small talk subject.

Well...who likes waffles?

A roll is a roll is a roll. I don't care what they do with the dice before they toss them, as long as they don't try to play with them after they leave my opponent's hand. Unless the dice are loaded, there is absolutely no way they can affect the outcome.

Only real way to solve the issue is a dice tower that many game clubs have.

The beautiful Alderaan River Orchid. This orchid was known to grow only near the single ice cap on Alderaan. It would bloom year round, using the slightly cooler temperature to keep bugs and other pests away allowing it to flourish.

The orchid roots, while starting in the ground would find their way towards dying trees.

Currently no one is sure why they do this.

The orchid would bloom with colors of vibrant ice blue and deep greens. It had no scent but was a very hearty plant. It could grow up to 2 meters if given proper nutrition and space to grow. The flower had no medical properties but was commonly used during more northern festivals and was found in many homes of the wealthy.

The Jedi Council took interest in the plant as a part to help build relations with alderaan during the time of the old republic. Samples were taken to the Marfa System where jedi who specialized in biology and plant anatomy worked with and help maintain the flower. Given it survived the destruction of alderaan made it a secret symbol of houses favoring the rebellion. Many times the orchid would be in the houses or digital watermarks of encrypted messages sent across the growing empire.

If it Rolls, it's good. A lot of people do weird things for fun that make them feel better about their roll, no matter how silly, like humming or something. I used to roll all but one, and then delay before rolling the last. (though being careful not to hit other dice. Not worth it.) My friend used to roll one at a time, until I pointed out that this could alter previous rolls.

Whats Alderaan? ;)

I got an answer from my plastics engineer father in regards to air bubbles in dice,"The air bubble is actually a void that is created due to shrinkage because once processed, during cooling, plastics shrink.]You are correct in assuming that the dice would not be perfectly balanced as the void (no matter) weighs less than the plastic material that does indeed have matter. How this is processed makes all the difference in the world…And…It’s a good thing that they are not Power Ball numbers! They have to gram weigh each one and inspect for perfect roundness."

don't know the look of the app, but if it doesn't have a too complex GUI, one might also have to ensure it's the original app and not a lookalike. In some ways apps are easier to fake than dice, depending on your skillset.

Besides, to a real board game belong real dice, I usually only use dice roller if I don't have any dice on me and in the case of x-wing you are carrying already enough stuff so that it doesn't matter anyhow.
