Firespray Mania

By Imagined Realms, in X-Wing

Thanks for all the feedback so far...

At this point, my thoughts tend towards Fett and Scarlet, both with PTL, Recon and E/U (or swap the E/U for a missile type).

The former would offer what seems to me a really consistent list: high PS, either high offense or defense as required with PTL (mixing up TL, double focus and/or evade), manouverability with E/U and PTL to keep everyone in arc and a good chance at the initiative with a total cost of 99.

Using missiles would allow more alpha strike potential (especially with the assault varieties) at the expense of manouverability, a reliance on front arc and the risk of the miss.

Gah, sometimes the list building aspect of X-Wing does my head in.

**** YOU FFG. **** YOU AND YOUR WELL BALANCED GAME WITH ITS EQUALLY INTERESTING OPTIONS!

This is a list I'm picking up a second Firespray to test out. I really like the idea of Kath, so I focused on making her work.

Kath Scarlet: Marksmanship, Gunner 46

Dark Curse 16

Bounty Hunter: Recon Specialist, Anti-Pursuit Lasers 38

I'm not sure about the APL on the Bounty Hunter, but I wasn't sure what to put in for the last 2 points. Possible changes include dumping the APL and turning the Recon in to a gunner, or leaving the APL and putting Vader in place of the Recon.

Yeah I would just run a Gunner in the BH. That way you can almost guarantee nasty hits against a single target. I don't like Vader in a Firespray. At 33 points a BH is way too much points to throw away.

One list I've been thinking of running is:

Krassis + Ion Cannon and Rebel Captive

Dark Curse

Backstabber

RGP + PTL

for 99 points.

My plan is to send Krassis and Dark Curse straight at them, either pilot won't be an attractive option to shoot at. I'll have BS and RGP in flanking positions. If they try to lock down a flanker, so be it. Krassis and Curse and possibly the other flanker will swoop in. Krassis will be able to Ion and lock down attacking ships. My hope with this list is to create confusion. The obvious major target is the Firespray, but you can't ignore 2 ships throwing 3 dice at your flanks. Also, its one PS 5 pilot and the rest PS 6. So they'll shoot before most lists.

With firesprays there is a way to get in range 3 for a missile shot on the first round. With EU, PTL and/or squad leader on somebody else it's possible and deadly since your opponent really isn't expecting it and thus not making defensive decisions. Food for thought.

I'm going to reiterate one more time that I've found Predator to be VASTLY superior to PTL on a firespray. The two main reasons are that it doesn't have a a lot of green moves to clear it, and being a big ship it's easier to crash and not have actions to activate ptl.

The ONLY time I find PTL better, and even then it's possible a toss up, is in the very late game when you can use it to increase your defense.
