A rebel build to fight the swarm

By macar, in X-Wing

One of the biggest things I'm seeing in events now is formation flying. People have becomes so comfortable with it that they almost use it as a crutch because they feel safe keeping their ships together. This leads me to the opinion that assault missiles may be very viable in a formation heavy meta.

Green Squadron Pilot — A-Wing 19 Push the Limit 3 Chardaan Refit -2

Wes Janson — X-Wing 29 Veteran Instincts 1

Gold Squadron Pilot —

Y-Wing 18 Ion Cannon Turret 5 R3-A2 2

Lieutenant Blount — Z-95 Headhunter 17 Push the Limit 3 Assault Missiles 5

Blount and his assault missiles will do a good area splash giving you the upper hand in the first volley of fire.

Wes will be there to strip tokens making the missile more likely to hit with damage. (auto hit aside). The A-wing is an pest used for blocking high PS ships and surviving the remaining tie swarm ships. The gold with stress was a great combo I have seen floating around here on the boards and its needed against a b-wing heavy meta. One nice thing about this squad is it's lack of reliance on being right next to eachother.

The idea with the one assault missiles is to create fear for swarm builds. Either leave your ships together and get splashed or take them apart and forget you have an effect like biggs or howl.

Interesting, and may give swarms pause (though likely not mine - Blount will be 'Enemy #1, and if he gets his missile off it'll hurt, but then it's business as usual).

What I find funny is that with Wave 4, the Reb Scum are going to start flying swarms using Z-95s because they're so cheap...

The ICT and R3-A2 combo doesn't work if that's what you're trying to do. Turrets don't give you 360 arcs they just allow you to shoot outside your arc. The wordings on the card are important cuz it implies that your firing arc doesn't change so R3-A2 is still limited to the Y-wing's front arc. That droid is better served on Wes Jenson's X-wing.

The idea is to create a larger threat range. Yes I know about the limitations of the y-wing with r3 but I don't think it is all that bad. Even if you move past our opponent you make your opponent unable to k-turn back or take an action. You have to run the y-wing front heavy when you have this setup, it's harder but not impossible.

If Wes has the r3, who would be your first target? The y-wing or Wes?

My bad. I just saw the R3A2, Y-wing and ICT thread after posting here.

I'm not familiar with this build and I'm not sure how well it works but it sounds viable. You're right in that Wes would be focused down if he had the droid but I've only ever used it on Hobbie hence the suggestion to put it on an X-wing. You don't have to take it so just carry on:)
