Played 2 matches yesterday. One was a league game, the other was for funsies.
In my first match I was flying 4 X's (Luke w R2D2 + DTF, Wedge, and 2 Rooks) vs Shuttle w Vader, Krassis + HLC + Reb Captive + Seismic + something else, and 2 Academies.
The first turn was all positioning as we moved toward each other. I had a great set up with the Rooks just to right of center, and Biggs, and Luke to center left. This left everyone in Biggs' bubble. Asteroids were nicely placed for me as well. My opponent came with his 2 Acad from my upper right corner, his shuttle straight across, and Krassis toward the upper left.
First move he charged in with the Acads and let his 2 big ships move slowly. I was also moving pretty slowly here to get a short gap to close on Vader.
(As an aside, I pondered starting my Xwings with a 4K turn maneuver, and then soft turning to one direction. It would've given me the slower start I wanted, and been entirely unexpected. However I was worried about potentially handing over control of the board early if it went awry)
By turn 3, we were engaged. I had loads of shots on the Shuttle, but one of my Rooks got stripped by Krassis' HLC when I misjudged his move and Biggs' wasn't in range. Switching crtis to hits also made DTF far less useful, which sucked for me.
Turn 4 I k-turned Luke behind Krassis and the Shuttle and finished off Vader, but lost an X to the HLC. My opponent was clearly sweating at this point.
Unfortunately the match became an uphill battle from there as targetting Krassis gave me stress and made it harder to stay out of arcs, while getting pummeled by the serious firepower he was packing. The Firespray turned out to be the death of me as it slowly picked off X after X, and though I managed to down a TIE, I just never got past that HLC.
I think the final tally was 100-36. Loss.
After we packed that up, we decided to run a second game since we had the time.
My opponent fielded the GR70 with a nasty stress build (don't recall all the cards, but Frequency Jammer and a few others were among them). And 2 Y wings with Flachettes. One had an Ion Turret, the other a stress droid.
I rolled in Vader + Squad Leader, 2 Scimitars with Concussion and Seismics, and Turr.
I got the upper hand early, unleashing Concussion missiles on the transport, aided by Vader for the extra action Focus and got it down to about half hull.
The transport managed to ram into both a bomber and his Y wing on the ensuing turn, much to his dismay. Unfortunately I flew poorly with my Interceptor and got Turr stuck on an asteroid while doing a K turn across the transport, leaving him open to damage from some stress related mechanic on the GR, which finished him off.
By the end, it was me with Vader, my opponent with a heavily damaged transport, and a Y wing. We ended up calling the game as he felt like he would never be able to get a good shot on Vader, and I would never do enough damage to crack through his regenning shields.
Whatever his stress build was, was absolutely nasty. I may email him to post it to the thread.
