Force of Destiny slots sold out at gencon within 2 seconds
I'm thinking there is some anticipation of this........
Actually all FFG Star Wars system seats were sold out very quickly, including EotE and AoR.
This will now be my 3rd straight GenCon with zero Star Wars because of bad luck of the pre-reg speeds on the internet.
I've got 20 years of GenCon under my belt. They need to seriously change the way event reg works to let loyal attendees to at least reserve 1 event early, maybe something like 1 early event reservation per 5 years of attending. They probably couldn't make it fully retroactive, but they may have records for at least the last 7 years of attendees.
All I hope is I can get my hands on the beta. I don't want them doing too small a print run and running out of copies too soon after gencon.
I hope that the Beta makes its way to game stores with less lag time than we saw with the Age of Rebellion Beta.
2 seconds? Wow. I should consider it lucky that I got one of them.

Part of me would expect a smaller print run, given that the AoR beta is still around. But then, since F&D is what everyone's been clamouring for, maybe they'll go nuts with this one.
Also, Happy 1000 posts!
I wish it would go wider availability immediately. Being a Beta, I'd like to see more people than Gen Con goers getting a crack at playtesting. F&D feels like the game that will benefit the most from playtests.
Busy time for FFG on Star Wars. Still have plenty of EoE stuff to launch. Just getting into full swing on AoR and now F&D beta. Lotsa good stuff, should be a great summer and fall for the whole line overall.

Actually that would have been Edge of the Empire. That was the one where the core mechanics got hashed out (even for Force powers). Now its just a matter of a few species, a set of careers and specializations, new talents, a new skill (Lightsaber), some gear, and then Force powers. Bits to play with to make sure they're balanced, but the system as a whole has been play tested for quite some time now. Oh, there's also the "not Obligation, not Duty, but instead...X" mechanic where X should present a new rule that needs testing, so that'll be something.
I think this F&D beta will do relatively as well as the EotE beta because of the many people that want access to the Force specs and abilities. Many people didn't feel the need to get the AoR beta because it didn't bring that much new to the table. F&D though is the book many have been waiting for.
The F&D Core book is the one I'll be waiting for. Not into the beta thing.
Wow, feeling super lucky to have gotten tickets for a F&D session!
A buddy was #133 in queue and tried getting tickets for our group of four together on Sat afternoon. Three of us got tickets, but unfortunately he was squeezed out and didn't get one.
I managed to get one for each aor and fod. Note all the group was as lucky.
(In reply to HappyDaze. I can't do the quote thing from windows 8 for some reason.)
The reason I say that I wish the F&D Beta would be much wider than Gen Con is because of the balance of Jedi vs non-Jedi that a lot of people (me included) are worried about. It would be nice to get play reports from as many mixed groups as possible, using all three systems together, to see how the Jedi interact with groups from the other two Core books.
I think that beyond just getting the Core rules in place through playtesting, Force Powers and Lightsabers are probably the next most difficult thing to balance out and get right.
Well you have to remember that F & D is actually first a stand alone game. They need to test it to see how it stands up on its own merits before even worrying about how it stacks up to being combined with the other two. Look at AoR we didn't get how Obligation and Duty were going to work together until the last Beta update. I expect they will do the same with the F & D demos at GenCon, in fact, I bet that you won't see a single other class from EotE or AoR in those demos just to keep the test as clean as possible. Also remember if you find issues or you go to your local group and say "Hey, lets play this." FFG will still take any feedback we give them to heart. They may not use it but they don't seem to be the types to go "Our way or the highway, pleebs!".
The thing of it is and I think Donovan has a point in this is that the game is slowly shifting out of balance as you add more Force classes. However, if you have the games stand on their own as of right now EotE Exile and AoR Emergent do not bring any imbalance to the game. I think what they are trying to do is give us three separate but balanced Core systems. A good foundation with three points to build up off of. They can and already have started building off EotE and we expect the same with AoR (in fact, we getting new rules for squad/squadron play in the new adventure). I think we are just going to simply give it time to see how they introduce F & D so it doesn't overshadow or topple the others.
I am hoping that next year we will see a EotE/AoR/F&D demo where they let any class into it just to see how they fit and fight together. I want to go to GenCON though someone take me with them! lol
I was enthused about FoD being available in August but then I realized that AoR wasn't available until like October for anyone who didn't go to GenCon.
I'm hoping that FFG adds some more F&D sessions, but worse comes to worse I'll just show up with some generic tickets and hope for the best. Actually worked out for me last year with being able to play in an EotE session run by Sterling Hershey.
As for the availability of the book outside of GenCon... talk to your local FLGS if you've got one. Odds are they're going to get copies to sell, and might even be able to snag a copy for you from GenCon if they've got someone going (a friend of mine was able to get copies of the EotE and AoR Beta books this way). Hopefully there won't be as long as a delay for folks to get the F&D Beta as there was for the AoR Beta, but GenCon, both prep and aftermath, is a major demand on a company's resources, particularly the larger ones like WotC, Paizo, and FFG. In the case of the EotE Beta, it was a "big reveal" at GC2012, and FFG wanted to get as many orders in as quickly as possible. With AoR and F&D, that same impetus simply isn't there. I suspect they're going to try and get those orders out during early September, but if not they may account for that with a longer Beta testing period.
I suspect that FFG will probably favor shipping copies out to retailers over individual online buyers, as they did with the AoR Beta. Also bear in mind that GenCon is a major thing for RPG companies, particularly given the huge attendance numbers that GenCon's had the past few years (last year was a record-breaker if I remember right). Is it a case of "exclusivity"? **** straight, and it's something that exists in all industries, with a select audience able to acquire certain goods ahead of the masses. In this case, it's the folks that have made the trek to GenCon (which is NOT cheap by any stretch) that are able to enjoy a perk of being able to purchase various products before they see mass release.
October would be great for me but if someone wants to grab me a copy at GenCon and fedex it to me that would be like epicly awesome too. I would be good for the money even wire it to you (with shipping cost of course) once I got it in my hot little hand lol. Still jealous of you GenConners I will be left down here in the South. My own fault I let my frirends convince me that DragonCon was more important this year. OF course at the time I hadn't even looked very hard at EotE yet so it was pretty easy decision at the time. I am hoping to pull it off next year but might stick with smaller cons like ReaperCon, CritCon, and GamerNationCon. Well at least ReaperCon as I am not sure about the other ones if they will be going on in 2015.
I got tickets for my group for a F&D game. Sooooo looking forward to it!!
