Blinded Pilot & Target Lock

By DR4CO, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Interesting situation that came up in a game today: I had Hobbie with R3-A2 aboard, with a Target Lock on an enemy X-wing. Unfortunately, Hobbie had previously been handed Blinded Pilot, so on his next attack he would roll no dice.

The question that came up was if I could do the usual A2/TL shenanigans to stress the target, despite not having any dice to roll. We decided A2 was fine, as he triggered at the start of the attack, but were less sure about the TL. I know you can choose to re roll 0 dice when you spend a TL, but can you still do so if you rolled 0 dice as well?

You can spend the TL to reroll zero dice. The number of dice in the common area (in this case, zero) has nothing to do with that. (1) So yes, the combination works.

After that, the defender is not only entitled but required to roll defense dice. Most players, including me, omit that.

(1) You cannot reroll more dice than you have. But that's irrelevant here.

Yeah, my bad Ben, it appears that you could have used that TL afterall.

Note: Hobbie can also spend a TL on Dark Curse to clear his stress. However, he cannot reroll any dice from said TL. Interesting little piece of info I came across yesterday when Hobbie only had a shot on DC (and no one could shoot him)...
