Serious Help needed with a question about Rogue Squadron and X wings.

By LedZep, in X-Wing

I know a lot of the members have changed call sings over time. My question is, why is there an X wing with 3 marks on most of luke skywalkers x wing images online? Is there any info on this anywhere? Is this the rogue 3 call sing? He is not listed on the rogue 3 list on wookiepedia.

That's the origins of the numbers. Luke was never number 3. Red Squadron became Rogue Squadron and renamed back to Red for the Battle of Endor and was led by Wedge as Red Leader.

No one seems to have an answer for why do the pictures have him with 3 red lines...even som old toys do.

Sometimes manufacturer's and publishers make mistakes. Another reason would be that the image of a particular X-wing that was used was not originally made for the purpose but was recycled from other sources and wasn't edited to fit the new role. Hence you get inconsistencies like Luke's X-wing having 3 stripes instead of 5. Basically its a case of carelessness or lack of research.

It's because when they made the film they used the same model for all of the x-wing shots during the final battle of the movie and didn't change the markings for the different pilots to save time/work and also probably because they didn't think people would notice that small of a detail.

Actually, they made several models for the film. Look at the last couple pages of the X-WIng Miniatures rulebook and you'll see four or five of them.

But they didn't use those same models for every shot. The traveling Star Wars exhibit had an X-wing that was almost 5 feet long. Don't know for sure, but it wouldn't surprise me if they used that single (larger, more detailed) model for all the final shots.

Another example of that would be back in the day when comics and some other illustrations that had TIE Fighters and even Vader's TIE Advanced used the Kenner toys as their reference. Back in those days I assume it wasn't as easy to get reference pictures so they went by what was easy to get at the time.

I remember playing the old X-Wing PC game and doing the Death Star missions and the TIE Advanced was exactly the same as the old Kenner toy. I can't count the times I've saw comics where the TIE Fighters had the battery box on them just like the old toy did. Oh and a more recent modern example is Stormtrooper E-11 blasters in some of the comics look exactly like the Hasbro or old Kenner toy blaster, down to the light up barrel tip on the end lol.

Luke's X-Wing having three lines on it just mark it up to lazy research or depending on how old it is a lack of reference material.

As for the game X-Wing, what's the middle between Red Leader and the 'Star of the Show' Red 5? Red 3... Just sayin'

I don't have the transport yet, what does Porkins show?

I can answer that:)

The X-wing on Porkin's card is actually taken from the cover of The Age of Rebellion RPG Core Rulebook and its meant to be Wedge (Red 2). FFG recycled the image, as they always do for X-wing cards, and added 4 stripes to make it Red 6 which it Porkin's callsign.

How do I know this? Cuz I'm the artist who did that cover.

So Porkins is Red 6 as intended. Cool!
