i lost my left eye 2 weeks earlier due to an accident >.>. well **** happens but after that i have kinda lost the sense and feel of my spitial eyesight and that fks me up with lots of crashes in x wing now that iam not able to coordinate my swarm like i was used to... should i end my Pilot career ? or try to deal with it and get along with it ? ....

man what do u guys think ?

Edit: even driving a car is on a halt now that i have to prove them that iam still capable of driving >.<

I would push through it and perhaps ask your doctor for some ideas on how to adjust

Sorry to hear of your accident, keep on gaming.

switch to vassal.

What may help is playing on a lower surface so you can get a top-down view?

Don't give up!

It's only been two weeks. I'm amazed you're even up for playing games, I'd be I don't know, but not ready for that yet I think.

Give it time, you need to adjust and get used to it. Same as driving, I guess.

Hang in there.

Don't end your career. If anything, miniatures gaming can be a safe way to learn how to gauge depth.

And if that doesn't work, look at it like a top-down 2-dimensional game, and re-learn it from that perspective.

Sorry to hear that man.

You are going to have to learn to cope with the loss of depth perception sooner or later, it seems to me practicing with something that requires a lot of spatial recognition but that is ultimately pretty unimportant, like a game, is a pretty good way to develop the new skills and coping mechanisms you need with a minimum of worry. I'm sure anyone you play would be willing to cut you a fair amount of slack.

yeah drving is the worst right now iam bycycling again.... i have to make tests so iam approeved enough for drving >.>

yeah i should try a top down view maybe... make it 2 dimensional could work...

I lean over the board to get gods eye view and look over at my range movements all the time to gauge distance. I lay my range markers out organized to help gauge movements. If you're worried about opponents looking for a tell, just do it multiple times focusing on different rulers.

Keep playing dude, respect for sharing your pain on here, we are with you, keep on playing, it's what's make us what we are.

Besides, my record is so shite you'd beat me with one eye, keep on playing.

Over time your remaining good eye will compensate, it'll get easier. Just be patient and don't give up, the human brain is an amazing thing and very adaptable. You'll be flying like an ace again in no time. I know a people with blindness in one eye/missing an eye who drive and play miniature games.

I have to ask, what happened?!

I'm so sorry to hear about the accident.

I wouldn't give up just yet, as others have said. I know you're feeling helpless and frustrated. It's a terrible situation and I wish you the best of luck in recovery and in learning to drive again.

It's going to take time to relearn how to do things that were so effortless before, so keep at it and don't get discouraged. And heck, if you can't pilot as well as you used to and you aren't winning as much focus, instead of winning, on making your opponent pay for every point he manages to destroy.

Sorry, as well to hear of your accident. I feel your pain brother, I have diabetic retnopathy, and last year had a huge hemorrhage that blinded my right eye.. after the opperation I can see clearly now, but just a week ago I had the same happen in my left eye.

I can offer this... I didn't give up, and since my games are always with friends, they were very understanding and accommodating as well.

Its great when others can make your kove for you as any friendly game this can be needed. Also, the top down aspect can help, and when making my own moves I try to move slow and deliberate. No one complains cause I give em the look that says.. even with one eye I can still use both hands to choke you out.. lol

The eye patch can be fun to intimidate with as well...

Again, sorry you are in this situation, but remember brother, there is this whole community here to help and provide some positive advice... and I'm sure your friends are willing to help out as well.

First of all I'm sorry to hear that man. I know it must be tough but the more you play the more you will adapt just like people who lose an arm and stuff. It'll be tough for sure but the human body is an amazing thing and the brain even more so. Just stick with it and remember luke lost a hand and still whooped vader ;)

thanks to u all. i will conteniue to fight even with one eye. i have to deal with it no matter what.

I am sorry to hear about your accident. I think you should keep playing and I think you could relearn some depth perception with the game. If I were your opponent I would make exceptions on the when you can measure rules and let you check things out with the range ruler. That might help you learn to judge distance again w/o eventually.

Don't give up please. Bad enough to lose an eye, and driving, don't toss out your swarm too.

well while we worked with a flex its called in german ( a high spinning blade that cuts through metal ) one big shrapnel flew right through my security glass and made its way in my left eye. the shrapnel was hot too so not even the pain from the shrapnel in my eye that startet to bleed like shiet was a problem even the afterburns were a pain in the ******. dont know but imagine a man yelling 10 mins or so full of pain ;P having its hand infront of the eye while blood runs through its fingers. ;P

thanks man that helped alot yeah seeing the people here caring for each other is a big +. and in the flag ship store i got nicknamed the one eyed devil ;P.

Sorry to hear this news!

Would *definitely* recommend the earlier comment about using the Vassal version of X-Wing (that goes for everyone, actually...).

It's purely a top down view, is really easy to use and there's quite a community (at all times of day from what I've seen).

Apart from that, all I can suggest is that you keep at it and adjust when playing for real.

Good luck!

Yikes! Sorry to hear about your accident, but glad you're otherwise OK.

I'm not trying to make light of your situation, but your post made me think of the British Admiral Nelson, who lost the use of an eye and lost an arm in battle, and still did pretty good for himself. A story goes that during one battle, a lieutenant warned him about approaching enemy ships, and Nelson raised his spyglass to his bad eye and said "Ships, I see no ships."

Best of luck!
