I'm assuming we should be starting along the 6' edges with ~3' between us? I haven't seen anywhere in the rules that specifies which edge players are supposed to start on. Starting on the the 3' edge with 6' to go just makes it seem like a waste of 4 turns to get to each other.
Starting Edges for epic play?
The Epic Tournament Rules note that players start on the long edges of the 6'x3' play area.

Must have missed that. Thanks.
Playing from the 3' end sounds like it could make for interesting moves and a good long run up for a head on smash between two blockade runners ![]()
Only have played one 200pt epic game with a transport...
Could have easily played on 3x3, with setup on the long side I don't think players will setup too much outside of the normal play area. Either both teams would setup in opposite corners for the full length setup/start or they will setup within a 3x3 section across from each other.
Spreading your forces out is a big risk in this game, spreading them out by 6' is insane. 3' allows your flanking force to at least hit the flank within a round (preferably the same round), anything too far outside of that and you are just dribbling your force into a meat grinder cause your opponent will most likely stick together and focus fire his 300 pts against your 100-200 split force.
The game we played was a 2v2 player team... We agreed if we were to do it again, we would use a 3x6 play area but house rule that each player would face off in one half of the play area... once one play eliminated the other, they could assist their teammate.
