My money's on the Vigil. FFG is smartly cross-pollinating between their licensed products, and the Vigil made the Age of Rebellion starship list. It's big enough to be a little longer (and probably a modest amount wider) than the CR-90, so it should reinforce the "we bring bigger cap ships" thing without being ludicrously expensive or deal-breakingly un-shelvable for retailers.

The Vigil being 255 metres long as opposed to the CR-90's 150 metres, means that it would require new packaging along with a new movement template (to prevent it from fishtailing everywhere). It's also going to be massive on the playing surface. I want to see it, but it is probably in the realms of unlikely.

Edit: Oh, and XAQT78, "canon" means that something is genuinely part of the story/setting. Lucasfilms (the company that handles all Star Wars licensing) has long separated licensed works into different levels of canon, to help explain what sources trump what. Generally, anything originating from Lucas or the movies was at the top tier of that list, with RPG sourcebook material at the bottom tier, and various licensed stories falling into one or two tiers between.

With Gencon not too far away, if we are going to see a huge Imperial ship/s as a counterpart to the current Rebel Scum offerings, it is likely that it will be revealed there like the GR-75 and CR-90 were last year.

I've said this before, but I'll say it again:

I don't think the Empire will get any huge ships. At least, not like the rebels just have. I think the Empire will bring a different type of Epic play into the mix. Maybe a Trench Run set that comes with laser towers and the like. I think FFG can do better than "here's the Imperial version of the product we just released. It plays the same... but different."

The Vigil seems like the best bet to me as well. It's size could be flexed enough to fit and it has a profile similar enough to a Star Destroyer that fans of just the movies will still be drawn in. Otherwise that Imperial ship from the Rebels trailer looks like a good choice. For the big ships I do think familiar is better. The Customs Frigate may look cool, but not many casual fans will pick it up just for a desk ornament.

The Imperial ship at the beginning of this trailer might be a likely candidate.

I would sure like to see an appropriate scale Imperial ship. I vote for the Vigil, but more info about that ship at the beginning of the "Rebels" trailer would be good too. I think epic battles are the area to move into with continued support for snub fighters that allow for small skirmishes too.

I just hope the Empire big ship is different enough from the rebel ships to add some flavor. A vanilla gun platform would be pretty boring. I vote for tractor beams and boarding to spice things up. Imperial huge ships should deal serious damage and make use of storm trooper boarding parties against other capital ships. Storm troopers could literally be one of the teams aboard the ship.

If I was a betting man, I would put my money on the Imperials getting the Nebulon-B with the next release. If FFG really loved us the would give us cards for both factions...

A.) Scale. If they kept it the same scale as the small ships, an ISD would be the size of a car. If the use the sliding scale they used with the corvette, it will merely cover the 3x6 play area. Either way the model would cost as much as a small car. I've already heard players bemoaning the cost of the Corvette. Think of the uproar over a monstrously expensive model that only the wealthiest players could afford.

B.) Point cost. an ISD is 10-11 times larger than a corvette. The point cost would be between 900-1000. Epic point cost would be between 30-33. That is a bare bones ship with no upgrades. You literally could not legally run an ISD.

C.) Doesn't fit Thematically. X-Wing is a game about dogfighting. ISD's are Capitol ships built to slug it out with other Cap ships. Fighters are gnats to be swatted by it's own squadrons and support ships.

The X-Wing fanbase is already splitting over the EU ships entering the game. FFG has a lot more breathing room with small cheap ships that they know will be bought in multiples. A huge ship on the other hand...most players will buy one, if that many. They need an iconic canon ship to get the maximum number of players to buy in.

An awesome ship that will thematically show the Empire's power. If they cost it at 4 Epic points, they could pair it with a 1 point ship to fill out Imperial epic lists.

Because the Huge ships are not designed to be played in standard death-match games. Because regular and large ships are, FFG needs to keep things balanced. The two Huge ships are designed for Epic play. There is no ship the size of these two in the original Star Wars movies that play a memorable role in the movies.

That being said, the Empire does have "Epic" things that could be introduced to the X-wing game with a little bit of creativity. I think FFG would better serve the game if they continue to provide DIFFERENT Cinematic and Epic elements for the game.

I disagree; I think all three of those points lead us (regrettably) back away from the Nebulon-B. It's still twice the size of the Corvette, which means in order to meaningfully fit it on the table the scale would have to come down even further--but it can't come down too far, because we all have a pretty good idea from OT shots that it ought to be substantially bigger than the CR-90.

It's also still drastically more powerful than a single Corvette, and to me it's definitely a capital ship rather than something that has a meaningful role in a fighter-scale game.

They can even carry four TIE Fighters on external racks, like a Carrack Cruiser. Although oddly Wookieepedia doesn't mention it can carry them. There were missions in TIE Fighter were they would drop you off and then return later in the mission to pick you up. Anyways they would be a fairly easy way to put out an Imperial capital scale ship.

The CR-92A Assasin Corvette was identified recently in the Correllian book. It has a blockier hull in comparison to the CR-90 and a better load out of weapons. I think this would be the safest large ship FFG could use as a counterpart to the Rebel one, but one of the least exciting. It's a Corvette- Again! and won't make much difference by comparison.

I thought the Nebulon-B would be the ceiling of how big we'll see huge ships on the table but now I'm not sure. Unless you drastically re-size it the Nebulon-B will have a hard time staying on the table for more than a few turns, because it won't be able to turn around or stay in place and will eventually fly off the board.

I think the IPV-1 would be too silly and underwhelming to expect for something like this, even if it is in the right scale. Escort carriers are too big and boxy to expect as well, and too minimally armed. Gozantic cruisers, from the Rebels Trailer, might be an option.

Except that they were designed as an anti-fighter platform. From Wookieepedia:

The EF76 Nebulon-B escort frigate was a 300-meter-long warship that was built by Kuat Drive Yards for use by the Imperial Navy, to protect convoys from Rebel Alliance starfighter actions.

They are tough nuts to crack, and would do a great job showcasing the empire's power and resources in comparison to the rebels meager capabilities.

If they give the Empire a ship the movies only showed in Rebel Hands I'll be very frustrated. The Nebulon B is a rebel ship or it isn't in the game. Doing otherwise is trolling the fans.

I hope for an Imperial huge ship the size of the Tantive, but with cheaper secondary weapons, and more spots to put them than the Tantive.

So the Nebulon-B Frigate is twice the length of a CR-90 and taller than the CR-90 is long. How exactly do you expect to transport that? Not to mention how expensive that model would be.

The height of the Nebulon B is its downfall. That and having to be nearly 2' long just to not look out of place with the CR-90 make it nearly unplayable, at least on a 3' mat. I'm really curious to see if and what does eventually get brought to the table for the Empire. But if FFG is waiting for feedback on sales of the first two ships before they push forward in the Epic arena, it may be a while before we find out.
