Rebel Aces 2

By akodo1, in X-Wing

I see one great feature of 'aces' boxed sets is they put cards that are only available from one faction's ships in the hands of the other faction without forcing them to buy ships they will never use.

Great example is an Imperial player wondering if it is worth buying a pair of A Wings that will never get played to get some PTL cards, but now he can get the Imperial Aces and get a pair.

More pilots are just gravy.

So, I suspect we will se more things like Aces. In fact I'd be surprised if after a wave or two we don't see an Imperial Aces 2 with a Tie Defender and maybe a wave 5 imperial ship.

It seems to me that the Rebel Aces 2 box would make most thematic sense to build around an X-wing and Y-wing. For the Y wing there seem to be a lot less stand-out characters so getting an ace or two wouldn't be hard.

But for the X wing, while there are many pilots whose cards we don't have yet, are any of them better than Wedge? How could you have Rebel Aces, an X-wing, but not Wedge? Do you just throw in a reprint of Wedge, or do you come up with a new version? Possibly stating that the current Wedge represents Wedge as he was during the destruction of the first deathstar and that his skills improved as the conflict progressed

OR...is there some other pilot whose skill is equal to that of Wedge and would make sense as the X Wing 'ace' pilot?

I have been hoping that the next "Aces" pack would actually be a "Battle at ____" pack, featuring the Y-wing and the TIE Advanced.

I'm sure we will see some more Aces packs however...

I hope they don't stick an X-Wing in an Aces pack, we already have a ton of X-Wing pilots from the Core Set, the X-Wing expansion and now the Rebel Transport - heck, we already have an X-Wing repaint!

So, for rebel repaints and additional pilots they've already got A-Wings, B-Wings and X-Wings covered. That leaves the Y-Wing, Hwk-290 and YT-1300.

For Imperials they have more options left as they've only done the TIE Interceptor, and I doubt they'll do a TIE Fighter. This leaves them with the TIE Bomber, TIE Advanced, Firespray and Lambda Shuttle.

I'm hoping we'll see a repaint for one of the small ships in an Imperial huge ship expansion.

I also really like the idea of a "Battle of Yavin" pack with a TIE Advanced and Y-Wing combo!

People who play one faction exclusively might not like this, but I don't think that's a high percentage of players...

I'm not sure if they'll do Aces packs for large ships....

I don't see a large ship Aces pack with only the large ship (like a YT-1300 Expansion Pack 2).

If they put a large ship + a small ship in an Aces pack, that would put it at 45$, which might be too high for their liking.

I suppose they could do a YT-2400 expansion pack, and treat the YT-2400 as a "repaint" - basically have the pilots be interchangeable with the YT-1300.

again i'm thinking coran horn and tycho celchu (both are duely noted exceptional pilots along w/ wedge). them not being available in x wings (even having tycho in a tie would be awesome as he used to be an imperial pilot) slightly bothers me. I understand there are tons of x wing pilots already though, so they probably picked them because they have been known to fly a broader range of fighters. They have yet to re-release a pilot in a different ship so my hopes are slim but one can hope.

What we really need is a upgrade card pack or something.. having to buy multiples of one expansion just for the cards is a annoying (yet extremely advanced) marketing technique.

Does not have to be a better pilot than Wedge. Soontir Fel was not in the Imperial Aces pack. (man that was a surprise when I opened it up, being a new play and all)

I'm hopeful that 2015 doesn't see a "wave" of releases. Instead, I'd love to see: 2 huge imperial ships and 2 "Heroes of the [faction]" boxes. That would give us a new toybox every 3 months, and slow the day when there are simply no more new fighters to release.

For the record: I'm hoping for a "Heroes of the Empire" box that makes the Tie Advanced _really good_, and a "Heroes of the Scum" box that gives more options for the Y-Wing- maybe even a Y-Wing pilot with an EPT!

I was thinking about this and a good point is in there. If we see a capital ship, I would guess at an Advance to be with it over a fighter or bomber, the bomber would be a good fit but I think the advance needs some love to shine.

More likely we will see a Bomber and Advance pack as the next aces (or if named something else like Imp Finest) also I would like to see a retrofit advance but (though it might feel like every ship should get one but it takes something any from the game) for the Advance a combat upgrade like the transport would be more in line, something that increases all stats by 1 for 5 points. ( if it is to much you would just take a defender) You could make an Ion Bomb for the bombers and both pulse missiles and fletch torps would come in it.

I would love to see a complete army box of one of every ship next year for 100.00 with dice and rules that would be sick for both sides. (minus the capital ships) call it the Rebel Starter and the Imperial starter.

Rebels 7 small 1 large

Imp 6 small 2 large

I would say Horn is as good as Wedge but we have him all ready... and Luke with the Force is probably better as well, perhaps we could get "Force" cards for vader/ Luke and personally i think Horn is Force sensitive as well... and lea too...And who is the Imperial pilot that used the force to Aim missiles?

Did anyone notice in the rebel transport pack, the three pilot cards state huge ship and rebel only? That would mean there is plans for an imperial huge ship. Otherwise, why write rebel only?

Coran Horn is good, but he's no Luke Skywalker. ;)

I don't think anyone was doubtful of huge imperial ships being on their way.

I'm all for extra stuff for Y-Wings and TIE Advanced. However we're not going to see the day when there are no more fighters to be released too soon. Star Wars: Rebels is set during the rebellion era so any ships that come from that are fair game. This should provide FFG with a fair bit of material for the coming years.

I think those are crew cards, not pilot cards. There is only one pilot card, and it's a generic transport pilot. The crew cards would match against Imperial only crew cards, like Darth Vader. That said, I think it's very likely that there will be Imperial huge ships.

Yes, you are correct. My mistake.

Hey, that sounds familiar . ;)

personally i think its a bit one sided with rebels only having access to "huge" ships with the epic rules out already. Obviously only rebels can use up their 5 epic points. On the other hand, so far everything still seems balanced.. FFG is doing a good job making every ship / upgrade / combination fair. There really isn't any "totally broken" combo. There are some good ones but nothing so far broken that everyone is abusing it.

And I'm still anxiously awaiting rebel aces 1! I need that chardaan retrofit and prototype vet upgrade! I also hope they don't release stuff to quickly then stop in a few years. X wing is a very strong table top game right now and I'd like it to continue to grow. There are not many games that are giving 40k a run for their money, i'd have to say x wing might just do that (if not already). Slowly more people at my flgs are starting to play x wing instead of only 40k.

I still say the next packs will be: Mainstays of the Fleet (TIE/LN & TIE/SA, Y-wing & Z-95)

Y-wings have the grey squadron repaint. Tie bombers have gamma squadron w/white stripes. Tie Avenger is the tie Advanced 2. How they make that work doesn't matter, just be cool when it's done. I'm almost thinking they will add a tie fighter with hopefully the Imperial Escort Carrier. I know most people don't need another tie fighter but it would be cool to get more tie pilots. That's only a guess but we have to wait and watch to see what is next to come out.

How about a Rogue Squadron Version of Soontir Fel? He did defect after all.

That's a very convincing argument you put there.

If you want to go THERE...

Col. Roark in a TIE defender, also known as Wedge Antillies.

I would also be interested to see the AI Driven TIE/I from the rogue squadron books...

Maybe the Millenium Falsehood?

Just putting those out there...

Us Imperials need something to keep people playing on our side.
