FFG prize support

By Dm1012, in X-Wing

Hi all,

I run a gaming club in Austalia and at the minute most of our members (myself included) are playing X wing almost exclusively. I have been asked by numerous club members about running a league/tournament which I would love to do. My question is can a club get prize support from FFG directly or is this something to take to my LGS?

The only reason I hesitate to take it to my LGS is that I don't want to run the event/s at their store but would like to run them at the club.

Cheers

Seems like your best guess is to talk directly to FFG. I imagine you'd at least have a chance if your club is legit (part of a university extracurricular gaming and hobby group, for example).

As far as I'm aware, Game Night kits are only available to retailers. You can always offer to pay for the kit yourself if your LGS is reluctant to host an event, but they'll still need to place the order - and they'll also be liable for any repercussions should anyone choose to abuse the kit.

Alternatively, you could just pay for prize support with the entry fee proceeds.

To be honest I thought as much, far to easy to be abused. But you'll never know if you never ask!

I'll have a chat with my LGS.

Thanks

I mean, it shouldn't be a problem if you're a responsible person and your LGS trusts you. But if kit swag starts showing up prematurely on ebay, or in high volumes from only one account in your area, the repercussions are going to fall on your LGS' shoulders. Last I checked, the kits are only $20 a piece, so if you offer to float the cost they might just go ahead and order one for you.

I think it is also an access issue and a future supply issue.

Some gaming groups are closed/membership only things that will only run events for themselves and not the wider community, where as LGS are public spaces that anyone can walk into and participate.

Also, by limiting to LGS, they are able to provide them to stores that stock FFG products in general, and X-Wing in particular. Meaning that:

A) the event will generally get more public press through walk ins

B) people who come in during an event can then go and buy product

C) they are helping the stores that help them.
