Should I buy this Game?

By Gallagen, in Mutant Chronicles

I am planning on buying the starter set but dont know if i should spend the money on it.

Could someone fill me in on how they feel and whether they think this game is worth getting?

a few questions you need to ask yourself.

1) do you like playing minatures games?

2) do you hate adding up points to make an army?

3) do you dislike the sheer number of dice needed?

4) do you like tactics that have a bit of surprise elements during the game?

If you answered yes to all 4 then i would say get the game.

I play 40K so that shouldn't be a problem

Another thing to go on my huge to buy list...

Sigh, so many games, so little money + time

You could start by buying the starter. It's not that expensive, and you'll get what's necessary to play the game : dice, maps, two playable forces, and the stats for all the figs of the game. You could then try playin the game, proxy new units to see if you want to expand your collection or not.

This seems like a no brainer for the cost of a starter set, you can play straight out of the box, if you want to upgrade to new units you can, but don't have to.

it also transports easy and is a sinch to put on the shelf at the end of the day.

I'm probably horribly biased but I'll throw my 2 cents in on why this is a great game to buy.

I am a huge 40K fan and love painting, crafting and all the other aspects of the GW game. Customizing is one of my favorite things. But here's why MC is a wonderful change for me.

  1. Throw down games are set up in seconds. Whip out a map, toss down some figs and start playing!
  2. Armies can be designed quickly. You set an army build number. For example you might want to build a tournament army of 10/10/10. This means you are buying 10 Gold, 10 Silver and 10 Bronze elements. You just grab the 10 of each item (a mix of cards, figures and action tokens) and you are done. Yeah there are tactics to what you choose but the army builds are streamlined and quick.
  3. While I'm a huge fan of painting and building armies, it is very nice to be able to buy a bunch of figs that are done right out of the box and start playing without having to look at a pile of gray plastic or shiny pewter.
  4. If you are a parent looking to get your kids into gaming, this is an easy to learn system and again there isn't the anxiety for them of painting and assembling delicate figures.
