YT-1300 Question

By Lancer999, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Next you'll be trying to convince us that Constant Thrust = Constant Velocity because of Space Friction.

We don't need that kind of realism in this sci-fi fantasy.

It's like UPS, they only make Right turns for better efficiency

how else do you think he made the kessel run so quick!?

But parsecs are a measure of distance...

Could also be a shortcut through a binary star or a certain dangerous phenomenon that shortens the normal route.

Or it could be he was trying to b.s. an "old man", who he mistook as a rube.

What you mean to tell me that Yaw Turns in Space are NOT necessary??!!!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Star Trek has Failed Me!!!

It would be nice to see the Crispin novels brought back into canon :) If only because I love playing me some Togorian martial artists.

who makes all these stupid cars where I have to sit on the left or right side instead of the center?

you get used to it.

If it's fun, use it. Just because any stories featuring Tongorian's may* no longer have happened, doesn't mean the species isn't out there. ;)

* or maybe they did. Your game, your call.

I don't get too worked up over what is canon or isn't, if it works use it, hell if it doesn't work, use it, it's your table. There is canon that sux and EU that is fantastic and vice versa really.

Okay guys, it was just a joke...I am one of the least worked-up people about the whole Legends deal, and I have read (and re-read some of) a crap ton of EU novels.

If you have to explain it, it isn't funny I guess...but I was just making a connection between my enjoyment of playing a Togorian bruiser and my enjoyment of the Han Solo trilogy, and the joke is that there's some sort of cathartic vindication for fanboys when the pieces they love from an outmoded work are brought back into the new universe.

Not to suggest that Togorians can only be enjoyed in roleplay if they are "canonized." I didn't mean for it to come across that way, but now I've got you all preaching to the choir :)

Anyway...carry on.

What always annoys me is that the YT-1300 is always made available to PCs in every Star Wars RPG. I never got the impression that they were common. "She might not look like much..." "You fly that thing?"

Can you imagine having one in the same galaxy as Han Solo? "Really, a YT-1300? You some Solo-poser?" And after the Battle of Yavin expect to be boarded by every customs frigate you meet. I've never seen the attraction to trying to play the exact same character that Harrison Ford played.

Zar...It is almost Impossible to recreate the MF, because there aren't enough HPs for the ship in this current game. Our YT is Black w/ Yellow trim and is decent for what it is. I am sure that my PC will want to deck it out w/ something off the charts but we don't have the credits for it yet.

And anyway, some people like playing a Han Solo! Harrison Ford is not included among them, of course :) But to the point, there are many options available to players in the this RPG because everyone has different tastes. Don't like the YT-1300? Fly a Wayfarer. Or grab a copy of the Beta book and fly a Ghtroc.

EDIT: Additionally, Wookieepedia states a few times that the YT-series, and the YT-1300 specifically, were very successful and popular design from CEC. There's no source listed for this popularity, but it is there in any case.

The YT-1300 is Rarity 4. That puts it on the near end of Average. It shows up as commonly among starships as blaster pistols do among ranged weapons.

In other words, it's the Honda Civic Hatchback of starships.

So don't. Stuff is as common or rare as you like it at your table.

Or, as my players refer to as, the white panel van of the galaxy. Apperantly taken from here:

  • Metallicar Syndrome: Averted but discussed early, where Chase drives the Runaways around and one of them complains about how uncool his plain white van is; he responds that he got it on purpose because a plain white van is the most inconspicuous vehicle possible.

I think Rikoshi was closer to hitting the nail on the head when he made a tweeted that YT-1300 = Ford F-150 of Star Wars, but the general idea is there.

Another element of the YT-1300 in the 'verse is that it's an old design. We see one flying into port in Revenge of the Sith, a good 20 years prior to the events of A New Hope. Also, the Falcon itself looks pretty beat-up, so between the age of the design and that particular ship's run-down appearance, it'd be small wonder that Leia (who is probably far more used to seeing more modern ship designs) was taken aback that her "rescuers" were planning on escaping the ultra-modern Empire in a jalopy, only adding to her less than stellar first impression of Han (Luke had proven himself at least semi-capable by that point and likely willing to listen to her, though how much of that obedience was due to his infatuation is up for debate).

In the Thrawn Trilogy (five years after RotJ), Han even notes that the Noghri (when attempting to capture Leia and her unborn twins) must have raided a museum to get a working YT-1300 to mock-up to look like the Falcon.

Being a native Texan, I can assure you that an F-150 is at least a Silhouette 5 vehicle.

As another Texan, I disagree, its sil 4, with the F-350 being sil 5 :P

When my children were preteens when they gained a YT-1300 and immediately stated they wanted to paint it red, white, and blue and call it the Bicentennial Eagle. They then became the most patriotic freighter in the galaxy.

I think Han Solo uses the force to feel what is to the port side and just doesn't know it.

Yeah in the Legends universe the YT-1300 you see landing in ROTS eventually becomes the Falcon after being rebuilt and modified dozens of times, and she was already 40 years old when ROTS takes place.

Why? Why? Why cant it just be a unnamed YT-1300. Sometimes I think it is just beyond silly the degree to which the EU authors took obscure unnamed elements of the film and pigeon-holed them into "the big" story. No insult to you what-so-ever I just needed to laugh out loud at that one.

IMO, it's not really any worse than Anakin having built C3PO,

What, I am not allowed to call my friends car the Bicentennial Lemon because it NEVER worked longer than 1 week at time??!! Or his Mazda Miata a Barbie Car because NOBODY 300+lbs could fit in that **** thing?? :)
