Looks like Wedge is not coming back for Ep VII :(
I kinda interpret that as saying that they have a role for Wedge, but the original actor didn't want to do it... so they'll likely recast it and so we will see "Wedge" in EP7.
Honestly, never heard of him. Star Wars was the biggest thing he ever did. He's a fool to turn it down. Any thoughts on who they should replace him with?
Seeing as Wedge wasn't a primary character with alot of screen time in the OT, I really wouldn't expect him to have much more than a cameo appearance in the sequels.
The majority of Wedge's influence, fame, and story came from the now 'legendary' expanded universe.
Wasn't there a different actor for Wedge in each movie anyway?
Denis Lawson played Wedge in all three movies, although honestly they were relatively minor roles, so I'm not sure what he'd be bored with, I doubt he'd have more than week of filming.
Ewan McGregor is his nephew.
But there was a different actor playing wedge during the pre-trench run briefing. Supposedly he was such a screw-up they fired him and hired the guy that played him for the rest of the series.
Episodes 7-9 should be all Wedge, all the time plus the ghost of Arvel Crynd.
All of the scenes he did in the originals were just of him sitting in a cockpit saying his lines. And he says being in the new movie will be boring for him? What other work is he doing that's cooler than playing a role in a Star Wars movie? Hm. Well, he was already minor, and I am fine with him being in it or not.
Edited by Jfitz1431It may be better if he's recast - I can't recall seeing that actor in anything else of note. Kind of a bummer though that we're not going to be seeing a familiar face.

No. No there was not.

Look him up on IMDB. He's a very busy man it looks like. Doing a ton of stuff on TV shows, like 40 different shows since 2000.

This guy!
I knew there was something strange about him! I always said I thought he looked way different with his helmet off!
I only recently figured out that Wedge was the one that said "that's impossible, even for a computer" in that scene... and then the actor was recast. I figured it was just someone other pilot... it's not like we know who those other two folks in that picture are... It makes me sad because apparently that scene was supposed to be much bigger but that actor kept screwing up his lines, so they shortened it to just the one line and then fired him.

I'd always assumed that was a different pilot and Wedge was sat somewhere else!

Yeah I only found it out because Darth and droids turned it into a joke about him being a shapeshifter (And Luke thinking he was a spy).
The actor is currently playing one of the leads in the BBC series "New Tricks" about retired police officers looking into cold cases.

He's quite a recognisable face on British TV. Shame he won't be in it. I think he's a good comedy drama actor and could have played wedge well as a light relief character.
This is disappointing
It's too bad he feels that way, I would have been honored to be asked to reprise my role after 30 years. He doesn't realize how many hearts he's breaking by saying no.
He's a good actor, he does a lot of different and interesting work for t.v. and theatre. I guess an offer to (i imagine) sit around for 3 weeks waiting to say 2 lines in front of a green screen didn't appeal to him, and i can't say I blame him. It's not like it was an interesting role to re-visit .. especially if they are going to re-dub his lines like they did in Star Wars.
Since he doesn't get much screen time in the OT wouldn't it be easy to recast him? Given aging and time spanned, that only seems to make it easier.
He even gets a hug from Luke at the end of the ROTJ special edition during the celebration!
I can see why he would not come back but it still makes me incredibly sad. I wish he would make at least a cameo for the fans.
