Engine Booster on Transport... why bother?

By TheycamefromBEHIND, in X-Wing

Hey guys,

I've yet to run the Transport but hopefully this week, before I do I wanted to ask what the advantage of using engine booster? It takes 1 energy to move 1 forward but couldn't you just choose 1 larger forward movement and gain 1 less energy anyway and you won't get blocked by ships in your way...

so what point I missing?

thanks in advance and Happy Hunting

Off the top of my head it gives you the option to move or not move after you see where everyone else ends up, giving you a bit more control over whether or not you hit someone with your regular maneuver.

Of course, it would also allow you to move 5, possibly quite important in an "escape off the opposite edge" scenario.

Because when TIEs are nothing but bugs on your windshield, an extra one distance makes all the difference in the world.

Also, if you haven't gotten to move much with it, the transport tends to yaw quite a bit when you turn and not gain nearly as much forward movement as you might think. This makes it harder to ram with than you'd initially expect. That extra movement really counts.

Also, it could potentially let you combine the 1 straight with a bank to move to a position that isn't otherwise an option.

Huge ships move after all other ships have moved. If you know that extra 1 will let you ram a ship, it helps. To clarify, you cannot ram with the boost, but you boost before you reveal your maneuver and nothing prevents you from ramming with that maneuver after you have done the boost.

Pretty much everything that everybody has said above me. It's also good if you got blocked or mis moved with one of your ships and you want to avoid a friendly casualty from collision.

thanks guys all good points

I have only played 1 200 pt epic match so far...

I found it was pretty hard to hit someone, my opponent was well aware the damage it would cause and the transport doesn't move that far so it was pretty easy to get out of the way. Engine booster might of helped with ramming..

The correct answer is that it gives you an excuse to shout, "PREPARE SHIP FOR LUDICROUS SPEED!" at the table.
