I have a local game store who, according to FFG, will be receiving the Imdaar Alpha kit. It's a small place, but when I went in to ask around the people I speak to have no knowledge of this tournament. I had previously posed the question on their Facebook page, but received no response. The store isn't so big that the question would be "lost in the crowd."

I had previously entered this store to see them tearing open Magic card packs from boxes until they receive certain cards of specific rarity before moving onto the next box. I'm not sure that is standard fare for small stores, but it kind of irked me and made me apprehensive to continue shopping there.

That said, I have continued to purchase X-Wing expansions from that store, including Imperial Aces.

So, am I being paranoid to think they are receiving a prerelease kit with no intention of actually running a tournament?

Luckily, CSI has a store hosting the event a 30 minute drive away.

Definitely contact FFG. There are places that want the **** pre-release that these scum have effectively taken it from. If they are doing something/anything even remotely dodgey they should be reported.

Cracking booster packs for Magic singles is SOP for local gaming stores.

As for the Magic cards, thanks for clearing it up. It seemed shady, but if that's how it has to be done so be it.

Yeah, besides draft events local stores and casual gamers are the major outlets for booster packs. People who play competitively only purchase singles, so LGSs have to crack packs if they want to compete in the secondary market.

Yeah, that's how stores get Magic singles. They buy Magic boosters from their distributor, open them and sell the most valuable cards from the set.

As for the Imdaar Alpha thing, a store near me is set to get a kit but hasn't been able to contact FFG at all. I talked to the guy who runs the store on the phone ... he was pretty frustrated with FFG being nigh unreachable because he actually does want to run the event (and start selling X-Wing product). Maybe it was an act, maybe it was legit and a different situation from your store's, I dunno ... just saying, it might not necessarily be shady. Weird things happen.

My closest store seems to be having the same problem (whether it is his fault or FFGs), and still doesn't have an answer for me about if he is running it (He says he's signed up for it but has no info for it?) nor an exact date he is running it. I do know another store a little further away if push comes to shove.

Some stores are running events. But unless you know which, it's hard to work out without just calling every store in your area.

I just got off the phone with a store in Brisbane which is holding the SW:TCG Regional. He also apparently applied for Imdaar (as did my local store), but has received nothing and no information from FFG or the supplier.

I was looking forward to participating in an pre-release too. sigh.

Acdording to my LGS (in Australia), they were only told late on Friday that they were getting the kit. Still jothing on FFG website though.

Having chased up the information for Australia, I've been trying to get confirmation from the stores in my area. It's like trying to get blood out of a stone.

sounds like awesome news for you, first they have a tournament second it may not be that crowded so you have an easier path to the top 4 for one of the new kits (if that is what your aim is)

Hey, don't worry Aussies. You're not the only ones dealing with this. I found my local store on the main list from the FFG page and talked to them about it on the next league night… it was news to them too! Though after I asked two of the guys who preside over our league nights, they asked the owner and he said he'd been in contact with them and just forgot to mention it. Apparently FFG picked them, they didn't have to apply. And before you get too mad about that, keep in mind it's in the middle of the Flint shopping district and there is a massive games/minis/comics scene there.
