Smuggler Book Next Please!!!!

By Seiito, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Just a little friendly competition with the guy requesting the Bounty Hunter expansion.

Thus far we've got Pilot, Scoundrel, and Thief, so to me some logical expansions could be:

Pirate - A pilot specialized in the use of disabling equipment and outdated sharp pieces of <_< metal.

Cargomaster - A pilot specialized in driving large vehicles and handling shipboard systems, with some trade thrown in for all those nasty port fees. Super Hidden Storage.

Sidekick - An expert co-pilot with all the skills that your average cocky space-buccaneer lacks. -_-

Sneak - A natural information gatherer and stealthy guy. Like scout or infiltrator.

Trickshot - Can precisely shoot holes in coins out of a deep-seated hatred for currency.

Desperado - An expert at boosting his fellow gang members.

Racer - It's all about the speed. Just don't ask him to actually run on his own two legs. ;)

All of these things are already covered by other careers. You're just making semi-uber versions of what we've already got.

Not sure if Bounty Hunter is doing the same, but, yeah.

First Mate- Talents to add Advantages to other crew member and buff their checks overall.

Daredevil - Planetary Pilot specialist meets social skills

Gambler - Expand rules and uses for Cool and Deception, group initiative buffs etc

Pirate - Melee duelist and ship commander skills

Navigator - New talents to expand uses of Astrogation and Knowledge skills

Call him a Bootlegger.

I'm hoping for the Smuggler (or Technician) book next myself.

As for the specializations, I'd love to see Gunslinger and Con Artist/Gambler.

Pirate would be good, specifically if it was akin to a pirate captain and getting the useless scallywags to work.

Infochant - maybe, a specialty that is based around buying and selling information, with a dash of contact building.

Lum Runner - Stop! Not good! What are you doing? You spaced all the food, the droids! The Lum!

Lum Runner - Stop! Not good! What are you doing? You spaced all the food, the droids! The Lum!

Why's all the Lum gone?!

Gunslinger - Use of Multiple weapons (Small Arms...2 Blasters) (See the Movie Silverado Kevin Costner's Character) w/o or less penalty & quick draw & something that is w/ aim (Not True Aim for that is INSANELY POWERFUL!!) but a scaled down version. Also some dodge ability. Also Vigilance & Cool & Stealth (Slight of Hand)can be career skills.

Also maybe w/ a Talent - Called Shot (Able to make a called shot accurately using a Destiny Pt or something)

And I like the Gambler Idea but add Gunslinger characteristics to it. I mean watch old westerns and the poker players always got into a gunfight eventually.

Yeah, I'd love to see a Smuggler book as the next sourcebook.

As for new specs, I'd really like to see something that focuses on really ramping up the performance of one's ship. A lot of the EU fluff for the Falcon noted it's high performance was due to a lot of Han's rather "inspired" approach to customizing the ship, going way beyond conventional modifications would permit. So a spec that lets the ship's "owner" really push the ship's performance without needing to rely on attachments/modifications would be pretty cool, with talents that increase a given trait of the ship. FFG would probably need to word things a certain way to prevent multiple PCs with the same spec from simply stacking the benefits to keep players from turning a stock YT-1300 into a combat beast that could eat Star Destroyers for breakfast.

Con Artist/Gambler is largely covered by Scoundrel already, and said Scoundrel does a pretty good job as a "fast draw" style of Gunslinger as well.

Pirate I could see, being a space-themed version of the Enforcer from Dangerous Covenants at heart, but perhaps with a bit more focus on subduing opponents instead of outright killing them.

I'd think that Infochant could be interesting, being focused on ferreting out secrets while also operating as a "middle man" for various underworld interests.
