So the list

Red leader - Garven Dreis - 26 points

Red two - Wedge Antiles - 29 points

Red three - Biggs Darklighter - 25 points

Red five - Luke Skywalker with R2 D2 for 32 points

Red six - Jek Porkins 26 points

and 7 red squadron pilots for 23 points gives you 299 points, so you can even win initiative. To keep with story your opponent can only field 6 Ties and Vader .

Well on serious note 12 X-wing swarm could be quite interesting list to play for someone mad enough to assemble it, and if opponent agrees to make list of only Tie fighters and Tie advanced (whats bit incorrect, but you can't use more than 12 of same ship in epic) you can make avesome replays of famous battle. Also you can mix some Gold squadron Y-wings, 9-3 or 6-6. That even leaves few points for upgrades, like adding original droids.

Me and friend just played a team epic game where I ran all the named red squadron pilots (fully kitted out) and he ran dutch and three golds with Han. We lost by four points, but it was pretty awesome and very cinematic.

P.S. your list needs to include proton torps, or you're never going to shoot down that Death Star.

After adding all 12 ships you got 5 points left, so its a choice - R2 or torpedoes on Luke

I think if you were to do something like this it may be best just to throw rules to the wind (at least in terms of points and ship limits)

Let Luke and Garvin have proton torpedoes. Put in the 3 Y-Wings. Give everyone droids (named droids if there were in fact those people's droids like R2 was Luke's). Put in Vader, Mauler Mithel, Backstabber, and Dark Curse for the Imperials, calculate points, then fill out the rest with Black Squadron Pilots.

It isn't exactly a tournament game but it would be fun as heck.

Or create a card for Death Star Turbolaser Turrets and a nice 300 pts scenario for the Trench run.

Preshoot down an X-wing and use it to canonically equip all the astromechs to their fighters. The named astromechs are mostly Red Squadron. Porkins and Garven's ones are in Wave 1.

you could always have the ties start from behind as well for some added intrigue.
