Mods and Attachments

Hi everyone! Looking for some clarification on how mods work on attachments, since I'm about to give my players their first bit of extended in-character downtime and one of the party is a Mechanic/Outlaw Tech who might want to tinker with some of the characters gear/vehicles.

The book states that every mod you attempt in addition to the first increases the difficulty of the Mechanics check by 1. My question is this: does that mean 'every additional mod installed at this time' or 'every additional mod installed ever'. If it's the latter, it seems like the difficulty ramps up pretty heavily on attachments that have 4-5+ mods available on them.

I believe ever. Yes, that makes it hard; that's working as intended. A weapon with 4 HP and an attachment in each one, and each attachment fully modded, is head and shoulders above a baseline weapon. It should be hard to make one weapon that good; at the same time, technical characters will be able to mitigate at least some of that difficulty.

Yup, that's how it works. That's why I'm always clear on the one I want the most on a weapon and it goes first.

just to clarify, it's every mod to that attachment. Mods from attachment B don't affect the difficulty of modding attachment A.

Thanks, everyone! I appreciate the clarification.
