3 TIEs vs 2 X-Wings. Woah....that was too close.

By SDCC, in X-Wing Battle Reports

So last night BCooper85 (B) and myself © had our third full battle.

I had the option to borrow a couple of Ints and an Adv from a friend but declined. I own 3 TIEs and I want to learn with them before moving on.

There are some pretty big gaps in the turns we took. I took some notes of the bigger moments. Hopefully it gives you enough of an idea.

B - Wedge and Luke

C - Dark Curse, Backstabber and Mauler Mithel with Marksmanship

B - X's tight together straight out.

C - Stabber out to the right with M/D out to the left.

B - X's both go for Stabber where they hit him with a crit.

C - M/D turn onto the X's tails with Stabber k-turning to also get them into this sights. Ganged up on Wedge and took him out at range one. Wedge has been a pain in the previous two games so very pleased to take him out.

B - Luke k turned onto Curses tail. Ben rolls 2 crits and 2 hits. Bye bye Dark Curse :(

Now at this point Stabber has a stress token. I forget that and do a k turn. We agree that I can do it but have two stress tokens. No idea if you can do that but we agreed that for this game we'd get on with it.

EDIT - Since seen the rule on this. Ben should have just picked a non red manoeuvre from my TIE's dial. Lessons learnt!

It was getting late and we both made some silly misjudgements with directions and ranges, but would stick to our mistakes.....the biggest of which is me mixing up which way I'm facing, and instead of taking Stabber right into the fray, I take him off the board! Ben offered to let me change the mistake, but I couldn't have dealt with that. So I'm left with a TIE (with one crit) against Luke who is absolutely fine. Not ideal!

C - Mithel rolls 3 evades to avoid 2 crits and a hit! Manage to take out Luke's shields.

B - Not sure what he did next!

C - Hit Luke with Blind Pilot crit and get his hull to 1! Mithel is on 2! I've turned it around!

Both turned and facing each other at range 3. B roles 2 crits and a hit. I then roll a pathetic 1 evade from 4 dice.

Ben and the rebel scum win.

There were mistakes, and a lot of learning. But I'm very pleased I ran him so close with the TIEs. If I hadn't taken Stabber out by being a plum I'd have really fancied it.

That's 3 games my TIEs have lost against his X's. I do have another TIE on the way for 4 in total, but I feel like I could beat Ben with three if I cut out the mistakes and had some better roles. Ah well, it was a good game regardless. At least I'm not forgetting to focus and actually using evade tokens now....

Your getting into the game so mistakes are bound to happen. Don't worry about them. Just look it up and, if you don't find it or are unsure of what to do, just look at Resolving Rules Disputes on page 13. And if you still are unsure of some rules aspect, just head over to the Rules thread and post it there. Let the rules gurus help you out.

Have fun playing and, above all, fly casual.

We've both been looking up YouTube videos on formation flying and trying to get tips on what to use.

So our next battle, which will be 3 X-Wings vs 4 TIEs, will be quite interesting!

Then next month we'll be picking up a second core set (so I can have my own rulers and dice). 4 X's vs 6 TIEs!

Beyond that we will do our own thing and not tie our purchases together. Just use 100 point games.
