Heavy Hitters

By Popn618, in X-Wing

I know the phantom part of this list is unreleased so its fairly untestable. But my main question is on the other part of the list which is why I'm not posting it in one of them other phantom threads.

But has anyone had any experience with the triple advanced flight group? I'm thinking of running something like this:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tempest Squadron Pilot (25)
TIE Advanced (21), Cluster Missiles (4)
Tempest Squadron Pilot (25)
TIE Advanced (21), Cluster Missiles (4)
Tempest Squadron Pilot (25)
TIE Advanced (21), Cluster Missiles (4)
Sigma Squadron Pilot (25)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The idea would be to run the advanceds together as a fairly durable, heavy hitting group, and then keep the phantom cloaked and fairly safe. If the phantom gets targeted use the tempests to clear it and if the phantom is ignored use it to wreak havoc from the sides picking spots.

I'm excited for the phantom but am looking for ways to fly it other than a tie swarm (which doesn't seem to bad to fly an upgraded phantom with a swarm)

Getting a target lock with a low PS pilot, and then keeping that same target within your firing arc as you move into range 1-2 to use your Cluster Missiles, is much more difficult than you think.

I actually posted a similar list not too long ago in the Phantom thread, if you're interested.

Cool. I hate I ask for a link but I wish I had time to wade through all the phantom pages.

Nevermind. Found it. Glad to see someone on the same thought track as me. I like the engine upgrade from your post as well.

I'd think running a naked Phantom would be a waste of its potential - Advanced Sensors to perform your actions before maneuvers seems almost a must, and not utilizing a crew slot on such a cheap ship seems like a sin.

I ran 3 Adv with clusters and Jonus for the missile buff once. If you manage to be in range on the first exchange to get a target lock and fire missiles it is awesome. Downed 2 Xwings before passing the other flight group :) I was lucky though that I managed to use one advanced for blocking the rebel ships so the rest could fire ahead. Something you could try out while waiting for the phantom ;) just use Jonus for blocking, hopefully also soaking up some damage.
