Playmat with chess-like grid for remote play?

By Julio, in X-Wing

Hi all,

In order to facilitate play with a friend at 6000 kms from me (and this guy says that it works pretty well: http://www.themetalbikini.com/2013/11/howto-x-wing-over-google-hangouts.html ), I am looking for a playmat similar to the one in this link, with a grid in order to facilitate remote play.

I have looked quite extensively on the web but did not find anything satisfying, and have zero Photoshop skills... Would any of you know of an online store selling something like this?

Your help will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Julien

There's actually something free that you can use, though it won't involve using your minis. You can play the game on your computer using Vassal's Xwing Module: http://www.vassalengine.org/

There are a few tutorials on youtube that can get you going.

Thanks for your reply, but the point is, we WANT to use our beautiful minis ;-) hence the need for such a playmat. Thanks in advance!!

Absolutely understandable. I'm the same way, though I love the game so I've jumped in the Galactic Cup vassal tourney. Just thought I'd present that option.

I think in this case having a mat printed is the best option.

choose an image from the hubble/NASA sites - they have nice and big ones - overlay it with a grid of your choice and have it printed by some online print service.

It's probably the cheapest way too.

Yes, as I mention in my original post, this is exactly what I aim to do... I wanted to know if someone saw something like this already done and either sold by an online store, or made available by a Xwing fan? I'll be really grateful if someone could give me a hand on this!

I was going to say check out vassel. The mat though is a cool idea.
