The Great Debate #33: Coolest art in the game
why no one participates? ![]()
I have a feeling my great debates are getting old... ![]()
c'mmon let's keep them alive at least until The Great Debate #100!
Just that i dont think this counts as a debate ![]()
But to be a sport, I think my avatar points out the coolest art in the game. By far.
Unless you have found the yellow sign....
I'm quite partial to Abhoth myself. It captures it almost perfectly, though I still think the picture should have been more... vast.
I really like Eihort's art. The creep factor is huge. My favorite investigator art is probably Sister Mary. It's just so atmospheric somehow. My favorite monster art is the Shadowy Figure Mask.
I've always enjoyed the Dunwich Horror art, even though the monster is supposed to be invisible. When I came to that image in the Cthulhu Mythos art book, I got to see the investigators' sizes by comparison o.o
Dark Pharaoh herald's art is a pretty neat picture—thus it has become my avatar.
My favorite images are:
Investigator: Rex Murhpy and Mark Harrigan
AO: Glaaki and Ithaqua
Herald: King in Yellow
Monster: Fire Vampire and Dunwich Horror
Item: Elder Sign, Joining the Winning Team
Ally: Any from Dark Pharaoh
Location: Graveyard and Causeway
Other World: Another Time and Lost Carcosa
Other: The Great Seal
Ooo, fun!
I don't know if I can be as concise as Tibs; there are different reasons for a lot of favorites...
Investigators: Pete (I love the guitar and dufflebag), Dexter (Gaslight Supreme), Harvey (the perspective angle makes him look rather intimidating), Jenny (Action Woof!), Mandy (Quiet Woof!), Michael (Who wants some?!), Rita (love the "coiled to spring" feel...run, dammit, run!!!), and Luke (love the warm color blend). Honorary mentions to Jim (Thriller???) and Daisy (Ghostbusters???)
Ancient Ones: Azathoth (I just dig the cosmic "ball"), Hastur (love the purplepuss), Yig (the full artwork is just electrifying), Shudde M'ell (I'm a Dune fan), Glaaki (the blues!), and Eihort (those eyes are fantastic). Honorary mentions to Tsathoggua (for still grossing me out with that disgusting virgin-seeking gooey sloppy tongue) and Rhan-Tegoth (for that awesome "what the **** is that???" slimy-eyeballed look).
Herald: I honestly never thought I would have gone here, but I think I have to say the Black Goat. Like Harvey, the worm's-eye angle enhances the terror of...good GOD, what the **** is THAT??? Especially love that one hoof that is about to swing right the hell over you. (Get out of the Snowspeeder, Luke!!!)
Guardian: Bast (awesome Egyptian detail). Cat Goddesses rock.
Monsters: Zombies (awesome sickly and green), The Black Man (happily sinister!!!), Elder Thing (not just for its fantastic appearance, but how it's ominously underlit), Goat Spawn (marvelously shadowed), Hunting Horror (ditto!), The Beast (I love the Sphinx), Riot (so dangerous), Skeleton (oh, so neat!), and Leng Spiders (love the colors and the angle). Honorary mention to the Moon Beast, now that I have seen its Star-Nosed Mole model: "But by God, Eliot, it was a photograph from life!"
Items: Motorcycle (just...cool), Patrol Wagon (Lean in! LEAN IN!!!), Enchanted Blade (also, just...cool), Patrolling the Streets (>ch-chik< "Ready, sir!"), Summon Shantak (yet again, just...cool), Join the Winning Team (GROTESQUE!!!), Book of the Believer (more disturbing than the Necronomicon), and Markings of Isis (Egyptian Woof!). Honorary mentions to Eye of Light and Darkness (Masks of Nyarlathotep, greatest CoC Campaign ever!!!) and Cultes Des Goules (suddenly LEGIBLE!).
Allies: Father Iwanicki (the stained glass lighting is superb), Ruby Standish (Catwoman, circa 1920), Duke (oh hell yes), and Asenath Waite (oh God, those eyes...). Honorary mention to Young Zoog (HEEE!!!).
Locations: Train Station (gorgeous Steampunk-y train), Cold Spring Glen (Boom!), Harney Jones' Shack (love the rustic charm of hanging doodads), and the Wireless Station (crazy engineers!). Also, I dig how the Silver Twilight Lodge sorta resembles a negative version of the South Church.
Other World: Another Time, Lost Carcosa, and R'lyeh...they're just nifty.
Other: The King in Yellow Box Cover is SO awesome. The Oliver Thomas Blight is pure orange crazy! The Red Corruption Card Back appeals to dirty corners of my mind. Madness and Injury Card Backs: simple, dark, foreboding. The Tainted Detriment Card is distrubingly adorable. I love the tiny horror of the Terror Track chit. And I love the three picture layout and colors of the Arkham Encounter Card Backs, and how they keep changing them for each town.
There's no way anyone read all that...

lol the thread's title is "coolest art" not "1000 coolest arts"

No, the thread is called "great debate" and jgt7771 has brought his best arguments to the table. He's trying his best to make a debate out of something that isn't.

I did! I agree with much of what you say, in fact.
I can throw my support behind the Tattered King and Yellow Sign. Though I'll post more as they strike me.
Totally have to go with the terror track chit and the outer world art
