Using Ionization Blasters against Droids

By dorianrichard, in Game Masters

The weapon's description states that "most droids are rendered inert for up to half an hour when hit by a successful ionization blast (reflected in the stun damage)". It also says that it has a range of about 12 meters in a wide, unfocused arc. According to the stun damage description it goes against strain but soak still applies. What I'm trying to figure out is does the weapon actually disable a droid after inflicting even just 1 strain? Given it's arc range and the fact that it inflicts 10 damage this would mean that a character could easily take out several droids at once with only one successful hit. Seems rather overpowered to me, especially since this is a relatively cheap weapon (250 credits). Is it rather that the stun damage has to reduce the droid's strain or wound threshold (same for minions) to zero before actually disabling it? That would make more sense to me. Anyone how any info on this?

I think it still has to reduce ST to zero. Not that it auto-disables if even 1 Strain is inflicted.

The description is hyperbolic. They just do Strain to droids and have the Disorient effect.

It's like saying "most humans are rendered unconscious when hit by a stun blast." Narratively and in-universe, it's true. But like the description notes, that is "reflected in the stun damage."

Or, "most Duros are killed when a blaster bolt hits their chest (this is reflected in the weapon's damage)."

Right, my take on it based on the stats (Disorient 5, Stun Damage Droid Only) is that you still need a successful hit with 2 advantages to trigger disorient for 5 rounds and reduce the droid's strain to below its strain threshold (with soak still being applied) before it is actually deactivated. The main addition based on the wordy description is that it works like a stun grenade as any other droids within 12 feet are also affected.

It doesn't have Blast effect. The description is way too used car salesman and is promising stuff the stats don't provide.
