GR-75 Repaints?

By LeoHowler, in X-Wing

Hey guys and gals, just curious if anyone has decided to do any repainting of the wonderful Rebel Transport models! Currently I have mine in the works, adding some red, dark blue and white cargo containers, but the main thing I'm working on and worried about is the body. I find the model a bit too grey drab, and I'm working on making it appear more white like it has in the movies and games. I've heard a basecoat of grey is important to use before doing white, so I was curious if there's any advice out there for working on it? I have decent skill in the application of washes, so putting the black shading back on shouldn't be a problem, but I'm curious how to make it look white without making it ugly. I'm thinking of using a little sponge applicator instead of a brush for the white, given how I'm so scared of having brushstroke markings.

Any advice? Pictures and bragging welcome!

I didn't do a full repaint, but I did make some custom decals for "REBEX" delivery service in aurabesh.

When your secret base absolutely, positively needs to be evacuated right now. -RebEx.

hmm RebEx, could also pass as name for an anti-rebel spray...in handy pepper spray format with automatic IFF system

I was thinking of doing something like "Maersk Hoth" in Aurebesh on the transport.

For when your twin brother takes ANOTHER pass at you.

I have a Twin brother?

Yeah. Its the dude that's always hitting on you. For god's sake, spray him!

I need to fade the decal out a bit, wash and drybrush before I'll be happy enough to take a picture... but the decal itself is already fairly subdued due to the colors I chose.

I just couldn't get over the idea of a ship that big not having some kind of markings (graffiti on the underside maybe, too).

"Darth V waz here!" perhaps?

Nah... thinking more along the lines of a Black Suns logo or something from one of the dozens of criminal organizations... "Son, you landed in the wrong space-port..."

Honestly, if it were me, I would use a white spray, possibly over a grey primer coat, as the base. After that, adding details, highlights and shadings should be easy.

Been thinking about painting it up like the transport in Mos Eisley...all rusty and such.

I was thinking multi-colored like the Partridge family bus.

I was going to add graffiti in Aurebesh and perhaps paint it like a deliver truck. Without my plethora of Star Wars universe books with me here at work can anyone tell if the GR75 is a civilian or purely military model ship?

Cool ideas, gang. I was thinking of adding some writing as well, but have yet to decide on something. Perhaps a ship name is in order...

@Forgottenlore: I'm scared to use a sprayer at all, since I already am somewhat of a messy painter. That said, grey with white then detail sounds like a good idea.

Mine says "Tie Swatter" on the side and I'm gonna add tally marks for every ship I kill with it by ramming it!

Well that answers that, thanks.

If you don't like "RebEx," you can always paint it brown ...

I was planning to make a decal that says "Colonial Movers" in aurabesh.

I thought about adding some scoring or blast mark any time it is defeated. A little masochistic, but it would give the ship some history. Really give it that rough and used look.

"Gee Admiral, why is your transport black?"

Where are the pictures of these!?

Sorry man, I'm not privy to a good camera, annnnd it's sadly not finished. I'm taking my sweet time with this one, since I want it to look its best. I promise I'll eventually post all my repaints on the forum. Eventually...
