Just wondering if there are any trade forums around or if it's appropriate to place trade request in this general forum? I'm looking to acquire the upgrades and pilots out of the transport. If this is out of line here, please let me know.
Thanks

Hmm, I think it would be best if we didn't set that kind of precedent for this forum. Not because it would be improper, necessarily, but because trade requests would simply be too disruptive if they became the norm.

That's what I thought so I wanted to ask.
There is a trade forum called ebay.com
You trade money and get ships. It works both ways :-)

Yes, I've seen this 'forum', although I thought the price for the item I wanted was too high for my blood. Essential it was the upgrade cards for the cost of the transport online. No thanks. I'll keep looking out though.
There is a fairly new group on Facebook where you can do just that. Hopefully we'll get more members soon.

Sorry that was a joke and a poor one at that.
Isn't there a trade forum on BGG?

Too disruptive from what?
I gotta say, I don't agree with this at all. This has to be the perfect place for this kind of thing. Either here or the reddit X-Wing page. It's a huge collection of X-Wing players that get together and talk to each other about... seriously anything related to X-Wing, and this fits the bill. This is a message board. It seems very presumptuous to imply that A) everyone is opposed to this and B) that this forum is too high class or whatever to have trade posts. High class isn't the word I'm looking for, but whatever.
I mean really, there are certain threads here that I specifically avoid because I think they're pointless. For example, I don't think I'll ever comment on a thread such as "Look at my squadron and comment". Those to me hold no interest, so I ignore them. It's not hard or inconvenient or disruptive.
If you can't trade with fellow players in a place like this then where the hell can you? This is the best place to get to the most amount of people. eBay is selling for cash, not trading for items. I've even seen threads here where people ended up trading Imperial Aces minis because person X wanted only the red ones and person Y wanted only the striped ones. They did their business, the thread fell into oblivion and that was that. I don't think anyone had an aneurysm over it.
My opinion? Post away and state what you're looking for. Someone is bound to be in a similar situation and this is the perfect place to do it.

This is FFG's forum. It's pretty rude to be discussing trading the game they sell right in their face if nothing else. If they sold random boosters or the like I'd agree. But they sell open packs. We know the contents of everything inside. Trading is of limited use and costs them money.
Some other forums on this site have subforums devoted to trade (AGoT for example). I don't think it's rude or out of line at all.

Too disruptive from the normal flow of conversation. Can you imagine what this forum would look like if every other thread was "LF Transport X-Wing pilots" or "WTT shuttle w/out Advanced Sensors"?

So you're saying that we shouldn't trade unused and unwanted cards and minis to spare FFG's feelings?
Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying we should open up this forum to allow people to trade their X-Wing items for, say, Magic or Pokemon cards or something. That would certainly abuse the forum. However, for example, I have extra Luke and Biggs cards and a few TIE pilots. I'm never going to use them because I already have them and their unique pilots. No sense in having multiple copies of a pilot you can only have one of. Say some dude accidentally let his kid completely drool on/rip up/eat his unique cards and now is in need of them. I see no problem whatsoever in trading those cards to him for something, or even flat out donating them to him. FFG doesn't care. They're a business first and foremost and we all own core sets and expansions. What I chose to do with them at that point is my business since it is now my property, and I can't believe for a minute that FFG takes issue with that.
Besides, this forum was made by them for us. There are no guidelines as to what can and cannot be posted. Sure, common sense and civilized attitudes keep everything in line here, everything after that is up to the community as a whole to regulate. FFG however has never come on here and dictated what they like or don't like.

Eh. I don't think that there's a flood gate of people just waiting for the go-ahead from the community in order to dominate the board with requests.
I don't claim to know everything, and maybe it would be a lot of posts, but like I said before there are posts here I actively ignore because I find no use for them. It's not hard to do.
Another option? Just make it one thread that people use. I realize that there are no admins here that keep stuff in check like that (as far as I've ever seen) and no way to sticky them, but a thread titled "LOOKING TO TRADE" or something to that effect would probably catch someone's eye. Also as I've mentioned the community here is really good at regulating itself. One reply to some dude starting another thread that links him to the LOOKING TO TRADE thread will keep all that in check.
I could be wrong, maybe it will cause the destruction of the universe, but I still think that there is no issue with trading here for minis and cards we all have extras of.
I see no problem with this forum. On another thread someone was looking for the pilot cards from the rebel transport. Someone on Ebay was selling them for 34 bucks. I had doubles, so I just gave them to the individual. It's all about helping one another as x-wing players. If this offends you, don't read it.
There is a thread for: I can't find my mini's. Seriously. 4500 people viewed it. Who cares, is this really the place to post that?

I think to be more accurate he is saying, trading is okay, just don't do it in front of them, on their forums, sort of like how you don't regift something you get from your parents to a sibling on Christmas at your parent's house
Once you buy something it's your property. You are free to do what you want with it. This is an x-wing forum for the players. They don't care if you trade x-wing cards. You purchased them, your free to do what you want with them. This is by no means cheating the company. Cheating the company is starting a post: Tell me how to win the tournament.

Have you ever tried to trade Magic cards at your LGS? Do you understand why the video game industry is up in arms about used video game sales?
Fantasy flight got your money for your x-wing purchases. It is not like magic where you have to buy multiple packs in order to get what you want. By your rationale car company's must be up in arms as well, with all those USED cars out there. Let's not forget the Salvation Army with all those USED clothes. What about the dog breeders up in arms about the SPCA with all those second hand dogs.
Edited by william721) This is their forum, not yours. You have no rights here. That's key to comprehending everything else.
2) Secondary markets hurt sales, hence my rhetorical question about the video game industry.*
3) It's rude to conduct trades right in front of the store owner, and likewise hurts their sales. Hence my rhetorical question about your LGS.
Consider #2 and #3 in light of #1, and then tell me if you still feel entitled to do whatever you want here.
*Just to preempt anybody who cares to bring up Magic in this context, constructed formats are not what drives first party (i.e. booster) sales.

I see your point, and that was my first reaction as well. However that thread did turn into a pretty noble representation of what it means to be a part of the X-Wing community showing people at their best. Strangers banding together to help a fellow player out in a time of need.
But that topic and this one are very similar -- a request by a member of the community asking for help from the collective.
I for one do not see the need for it, at least not yet.
The main reason for it is, that 90% of the duplicates are unique cards which everyone has, while other duplicates are usually of the kind where having more is better since there are multiple occasions to use them.
At least, that is my current perspective, might change with future releases.
on trading on this forum, the easiest way would be a sub-forum (it would also indicate at least some acknowledgement from FGG), but since there have been fruitless calls for other sub-forums, e.g., lists, mods/repaints, I doubt that will happen soon for whatever reason, probably the need for additional moderation. Since any trade request would probably need its own thread to avoid getting lost in a collective thread, this might get out of hand fast, but who knows.

I really would love another advanced sensor card. What's that your say? "But another Lambda shuttle that you will never use"? No I need to eat this month too actually.
that example highlights nicely the inherent issue in this case. The number of people with enough Lambda shuttles to have "too many" advanced sensor cards should be rather low, which would make those cards relatively expensive with regard to the demand. In this case I would say only people, who just want the model for repainting/modding whatever and not playing, would make up the supply group.
Edited by AsgoTrading is of limited use and costs them money.
The idea that it cost them money is bat-guano. It's ridiculous to consider someone trading for an upgrade card as a loss. People want to trade because they are not willing to buy an entire **** pack for one card.
I hope you can see how contradictory this statement is. By not buying "an entire **** pack for one card," you're denying FFG the profit that pack would have made them. That is most definitely a loss
