Wouldn't a Deluxe Starter be Awesome?

By Stinger07, in X-Wing

I would like to see a world champ box set as a starter DLX,

$100 - XXBB with tokens, Pilot cards, 2 sets of dice, rules, templates and upgrade cards - Rebels

$100 - Tie Fig x 7 with tokens, Pilot cards, 2 sets of dice, rules, templates, upgrade cards- Empire

I think that would be a super cool thing if the ships had different paint jobs and bio on how the list flies with a recap of the match up as a guide how to play. I think it would be a great thing for new players to see how the game works and to know they have a proven list that works. It would also spot light the world champs.

MTG does the same thing each year I really think this could work.

No. For one thing one of those is 4 minis for $100 ($25 each!!) and the other would be 7 for $100 (~$15 each) so no deals there. I'll also point out that the MtG Championship decks are NOT game legal. If they are they'd really kill the secondary market for certain cards which are rarer. I'd love to pick up all the best cards in that game for about $15-$20 when some of the individual cards in those decks sell for that much.

To me an "deluxe starter" probably should contain the pieces for two functional squadrons. For the Rebel side I could see the X-Wing along with a Y-Wing and the Falcon. I'd say three TIE Fighters and an Advanced for the Imperial side but that feels like it would still be lacking "balance" although I don't really want to just add another T/F; maybe a Bomber. The cards included would only be those currently available but there may not be a lot of misc. stuff that doesn't see much play.

Instead of a "deluxe starter" I'd rather see some alternative versions that feature other ships. Maybe there could be an "Legacy EU" Starter that included wave IV ships. The Aces packs are a lot like alternative starter sets except they lack the basics which can be found other places.

What about alternate paint schemes / slight modifications (similar to how the royal guard interceptor is supposed to look?)?

Same cards, different looks. Combine a starter box and an aces box,

No none of this....what i want is :

Star Destroyer compliment collecters set 72 various ties and i cant remember how many shuttles the massive hangar holds.

Or battle sets where you get 2 ships of each faction and a peice of terrain

To combine a starter and an aces box, you put both of them in your shopping cart! :D

20 years in the future, will we need to explain to our grandchildren the origin of the shoping cart icon and its title? Or do you think we will still be grocery shoping in stores?

It might become a box, I'm guessing we'll still be buying stuff online and having shipped to our home - in boxes!

i figure it will come by drone

Rather than putting effort into a new deluxe starter I think I'd like FFG to ensure a way to get more starters and wave 1 stuff to stores. Supply has been a problem with this game, and meeting demand would be great since there are many stories of new folks getting into this game! We're out of a lot of Wave 1 stuff at my local store, no base interceptors or A-Wings either.

If FFG were to make a starter kit to give newbies an advanced start I'd say four TIEs, two X-Wings, and a few upgrade cards found in other expansions that these craft would find useful. More dice certainly (8 total instead of 6), but I'm not sure if repeated range rulers and damage decks would be necessary.

About the only new content I would expect in the deluxe starter are new scenarios to support the increased number of ships and offer new ways to play.

This way a Deluxe starter would be appealing to newbies who are willing to spend a little more for the game at the start, and veterans who want extra ships and equipment after buying their first core set.

Don't give GW any new ideas.

The main thing I'd focus on for a deluxe starter set would be replacing the tokens and the like with acrylics. I would also then offer those acrylics as individual purchases for existing players.

Skip the Starter Kits and go straight to individual purchases for the Acrylics.

Perhaps the original purpose of the "shopping" card would need to be explained the the cards will still be around and may even be everywhere.
