We shouldn't get hung up on his words, and work with the sentiment. I'm sure he didn't mean any slight to folks, and was just trying to express his desire for a certain playstyle. And odd post, perhaps, but not necessarily a combative one.

I engage in both styles of play. I enjoy trying to build thematic lists and have some fun with them, but if I'm heading in to a venue where folks will be bringing their a-game, I will as well. I've oft said that I wish mini games divorced themselves from specifics sometimes, but a lot of folks really enjoy that. As others said, canon was just tilted a bit, and before that there was fan fiction, so there is always a way to justify what ya want, if ya want.
