Release Flood of 2014

By cert13, in X-Wing

So is it just me or has FFG just cranking away at the game this year, or is it they have finally gotten all the bugs out of system? I have no problem with the waves coming out on time and for the most part the same overall quality.

But this has also set off the little red warning light in my mind that after their contract may have been altered with the Disney buyout. Are they pushing stuff out STAT before a clause kicks in to "ALTER THE BARGAIN". Makes you wonder if everything we have seen is what is left of the approved items or if the Mouse is just faster at making up his mind.

Here are to the hopes that worry is all this is and Gencon will bring another round of announcements to rock the game...

I'm pretty certain it is finally ironing out their manufacturing and distribution chain.

Probably both, they are getting things done and their system is fixed.

Don't worry, Russell Crowe will save us all.

Lol. Then he will jump off a bridge after sending his newborn son to Earth.

I'm really hoping that once this wave is released along with an Imperial "huge ship" they pull a 0 on the maneuver dial and tone down the ship releases and maybe transition to card packs or some sort of mission/campaign packs.

Dude, you just spoiled like 10 movies right there. Major party foul.

I already stretched myself a little thin this year. After wave 4, Rebel Aces and whatever huge Imperial ship comes out, I will definitely slow down my purchases. All of my favorite ships will have been produced so this is a good deceleration point for me.

Of course, this plan will probably get shot to hell with some awesome thing I haven't thought of. Oh well.

I'm pretty sure all of this stuff was supposed to be spaced out better, and it seems squished because FFG is rushing to make up for delays.

Imperial Aces was originally slated for December, the Rebel Transport was supposed to come out February and the Tantive IV probably was meant for March. Wave 4 likely was always meant for June. That wouldn't have been as rushed of a schedule as what we're getting.

I doubt there's anything ominous about the releases. FFG's just striking while the iron's hot just like any business would do.

Totally agree, problem is my wallet is starting to melt down (along with my wife). :D

One of the designers (the guy who designs the ships on computers--for printing) at GenCon said he finally figured out the software and was getting more comfortable with it....maybe that has something to do with it? It was on a YouTube interview.

I was up at the May 4th event now 2 years ago and from talking to the designer I am pretty sure all the ships we have and have been previewed were already made or at least on paper already back then(maybe not the aces repaints). They stated their biggest issue was the turn around time from Lucas Arts. Lucas wanted ships very true to cannon and sometimes these changes were beyond the threshold limits of the software being used and plastic stress(IE that cannon is too big make it smaller).

I believe the manufacturing has gotten more streamline by just having more waves being made and the process is less prone to bugs. They now have better ideas of what can and can not be achieved for what price point. I think the experience they had with the Falcon molds is what has made the Epic ships even possible, that and the over all demand of bigger shinnies to play with.

But it still seems there is a rushed feel to how much is coming out in this year. As of now the only thing that won't be out before Gencon is Rebel Aces, or I should say is should be out. This is odd as they will not have anything to push sell and the new model announcement is whats left.

Everything that has come out this year has been stellar: excellent models with great paint jobs, and sensible upgrades. In what way has quality suffered so that it feels 'rushed'?

Just this year we will have more product produced/released and in our hands than was produced/released in the first two years of the game. This has been the first time I have felt the need to really exam minis in package to get a clean paint scheme on ships. Aces was really hit or miss, X-wing in most transports had a faded look(reds more pinkish) the off centered cannons, the variance of paint tones in waves, reprints looking drastically different enough there were threads asking if it was a new sculpt. Having ships in package already showing breakage. Some of these are production and quality control issues but they seem much more visible.

My only gripe would be the lambda wings not folding down properly without spacing the body.

Cool, you can have Russell, I'll let Emma Watson save me :0)
