i couldn't wait for innsmouth horror so...

By The Thing In The Attic, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

so i bought a second arkham horror base set just to get the newer board, what now? ...

well the board does look cool, it looks brighter and the tokens don't blend in and get lost like they did on the old board. I love theold board too but i hated that the expansion boards never matched. also the printed carboard had started to peel away from the stock at the folding joints and it started to look tatty. the setup looks brill when you have kinsport at the top of arkham and dunwich at the bottom so that the horror track butts up to the terror track.

so ok back to my point... what elements of my new set can i add to my old set to make the second set cost effective without altering the balance of the game, so far i have added

the dice

the new plastic stands

stamina and sanity tokens

explored markers

closed markers

skill sliders

and thats it

presumeably adding anything else will tip the mechanics of the game into an unbalanced state making it more easier or harder to win.

at the very least i can use the cards and tokens as spares incase any of my origonals were to become damaged

does this make me an arkham horror junkie? (i have all of the expansions!)

add clue tokens and doom tokens? clues can sometimes run out and so do doom tokens if the AO is half awake, there are some seals on the board and you need to fight an AO in an other world.

It's not fair :( People have money for a second base game and I don't even have enough money for KiY :(

edit: also, with the extra skill sliders you can essentially play 9 investigators, and 10 when Innsmouth arrives.

i thought the clue tokens were meant to be a limited reource to prevent hoarding for the final battle, so if i make more availble then i won't be encouraging players to spend them. the doom tokens might be ok though.

have two jobs and two kids so i reckon that entitles me to two base sets heh heh

I'm pretty sure clue tokens are considered to be infinite. And people should always be encouraged to spend clue tokens. Epic Battle is hard as balls.

There's nowhere anywhere where it is indicated that there should be infinite clue tokens.

There's nowhere anywhere that states otherwise...

I cant quote it, but it is mentioned that clues arent infinite. I believe it came up as a question in one of the league scenrios. I will let one of the older members link you if they find it before me, which they probably will. Probably before i finish typing this message.

You could freeze yourself lol

Nah, I have two base sets and all expansions as well. Easy to keep a different expansion mix. I'm even thinking of buying a second Dunwich Horror expansion.

I made sure both sets have 10+ dice available. 5 is not enough. But that's about it for mixing base sets. I still want to play with both.

That was just JR re: a league scenario. JR makes mistakes sometimes. As far as I know that wasn't an official ruling (although I believe I should be).
