I look at it as having a limited run of anything. Having the dice doesn't mean you won. Nothing ever will unless they engrave your name on it when you win. These are simply limited items that they give out to reward good players. Once those players have them It's up to them what they do with those items. Sure if you have Paul's world champion templates they mean something. But anything that is that hard to earn is also documented and anyone can tell if your faking it.

They ought to make some precision dice like Game Science used to make. Now that would be something to get excited about.
Sadly, I would think non-FFG dice would be illegal, even if they were more precise.
That would be a shame. I know it sounds snobby, but the standard dice are those rounded slop jobs that are rife with irregularities.

Geezh... the worst part about that is the 14 bucks shipping!

But that's the whole point.
Those are given out to people who did well at an event. So why would anyone who didn't do well at that event want them?
I mean it's not like you can't buy a set of acrylic evade tokens already, and for about $6 at that. Why would anyone pay $130+ for something they can get for $6? Unless they are planing on turning around and trying to sell them for even more I suppose...

There's something to be said for having matching tokens. Not sure there's $150 to be said for having matching tokens, but for someone who has an otherwise-complete set of FFG's stuff, just dropping in some random mismatched tokens from another vendor really isn't the same.
Again, I think $150 is pretty silly for it too, but "Just buy some other acrylic" really isn't the same.

I could see that for the dice. But how many evade tokens do you really need? 10 should be plenty. So I'm not sure why anyone would need more then 1 set of them.
Even if you had a set of FFG focus, I don't see how the AP Evades would look out of place next to them.
I can't even understand it. To me it's a foolish waste of money. If you got that much, do something nice for the guys at your LGS.
Why do you think they are mutually exclusive?

In this case I'll be perfectly happy with 10, and hopefully won rather than bought
But the count can vary by person - I frequently run demos and large games at conventions. When you've got 3 different demos running, or a Trench Run with 12-16 TIEs on the board, 10 isn't enough.
It's not just a matter of having the focus - I, at least, have solid playsets for all the acrylic FFG has released so far. I think part of the problem here is that the Evades are part of a set, but are suddenly far rarer than the other elements in that set. Focus was last year for "regionals", but there were a ton more, so there's not really any shortage (I had like 40, but gave a lot of those as prizes). Shields, stress, ion, etc all come in game night kids, and are easy to come by. But this year not only are thee evades top 16, but they're top 16 when there are also only a handful of events. That means there are far fewer in circulation, and there's far tougher competition to get them. The target locks were the only ones that seem to be in the same league, because they came out before X-wing got quite so big.
I have won the Dice, Evade and Movement Templates at regionals. I do like the fact that I won them. The first reason I looked up the dice on eBay was to see how much it would cost me to pick up a second set to have 6 of each. after seeing the prices I'm torn. on one hand I have a very rare and expensive set of dice on the other is Wave 4 coming down the pipe. I've already allocated the funds to buy what I want for the wave 4 ships but could cover it easily by just selling the dice. There is this Shhh... Don't tell my wife how much they cost as she will weight in on selling them. the Focus tokens i never had the chance to win as I joined the game after they were available. I do believe they will rotate back through the tokens for future events. So to sell or not to sell?
^ I'm 100% with you on that one.
Having "only" 3 dice of each type when you often need to roll 4+ also triggers an OCD-like twitch in me I did not know I had.
But with the cost of those that are on eBay, naw.
Bring on Wave 4 instead!
Edited by KeffischHoly cow thats rediculous. When I saw they wanted over a dollar a piece for their custom dice I said no way and bought some 25 cent'ers and just engraved the symbols on the appropriate side. That hit symbol was sure tough to reproduce! I guess if those dice were emeralds and rubys I would pay that much lol.
Those people are gonna feel silly when FFG realizes there is such a demand and just starts stamping them out like mad.

That I completely get, and your case you won a set.
What I don't get is anyone paying $130+ for $6 worth of tokens.

Price is dropping, now tokens are under 60 bucks. I wonder for how much will they go. It's insane.
...Note that it still has a day left on the bidding. It will almost certainly bid up quite a bit more before the auction ends.
And it's in Poland, I'd wager a US seller could get a slightly higher price, but then again I sold my evades to a guy overseas.
Edited by pbpanchoIf I get evade tokens I would sell them in a heartbeat and just buy some from AP for less, the dice however are kinda cool, but I would also be kinda ocd about only having three of each....

Easy solution - travel 9hrs to the next closest regional, place top 8 at that as well, and then you have 6! The only time you'd need 7 right now is APT + Opp + Jan.
I would love to have a couple of sets of these or similar. Just so I can get my dice out and know which are mine. Tiz a shame you can only get them through tournaments because tournaments interest me not in the slightest.
Those dice went for $327 US, you could buy nearly 25-30 ships for that. That blows my mind.
