Custom Card

By icewolf200, in X-Wing

Just starting to get into the game, going to be picking up fighters and starters soon. But one thing I want to do is make a couple of custom cards, what would be the best suggestions for making a custom pilot card.

The Custom I want to make is for an X-Wing and a TIE Interceptor for Lt. Kettch.

Well, seeing as it was actually Wedge, I would start from his card. Then possibly give him a Y wing dial since Wedge isn't as awesome wearing that costume... And then just so you'd sometimes take it over Wedge, make it 27 points.

Likewise then for an interceptor... Wedge's ability, at 25 points (20 for a PS1 X wing vs. 18 for a PS1 Intceptor... plus 8 points for Wedge, less 2 for Kettch)... and then give him the TIE/ln dial for the costume.

Just a suggestion though.

My suggestion for making a custom pilot card for the game, particularly for new players, is "don't".

It's a game with a fairly straightforward set of base rules and a lot of complexity, which is good, but doesn't lend itself very well to freeform experimentation. The FFG staff does this for a living, with a lot of support and high production values--and we still ended up with cards like Maarek Stele, Arvel Skynyrd Crynyd, and "Fel's Wrath". The odds that fan creations, which lack FFG's support and playtesting, are going to end up right on the nose balance-wise is pretty slim.

Plus, since the character in question is Kettch, I would simply use Wedge and tape a picture of an Ewok over the art on the pilot card.

Actually my customization was basically using an existing card. Yeah, I remember he was Wedge at one point, but still thought it would be fun to use like a Rookie Pilot and name it Kettch.
