Need some help with first buy.....

By Graigos, in X-Wing

So after deep thnking, and recent money drop, i decided to start with x-wing mini. First-off o heard a lot of just buy the core if you like then buy more, i don't want that i want a large first investment so i can fill my needs for at least till the end of year, with that in mind a friend and I decided to buy the next sets of thing for play, he will be rebel and i will play empire.

Rebel force:
Starter set (x1)
Milleniun falcon (x1)
Rebel aces (x1)

Imperial force:
Starter set (x1)
Slave 1 (x1)
Imperial aces (x1)

I always heard that 2 starter is the best, you get extra dials, templates and so on, in addition to that i will get the cards and ships from empire and he will get the same from me for the rebels, slave and millenium are dead must for us so that will no change. My biggest question is both of the forces of aces woth it to start with? i keep hearign buy the interceptor and y-wing first but that where older post before aces was realeased, im just thinking if it will no create an unbalanced force for both sides with too many ''elites'' choices and few ''basics'' one.
Or if you had to change something, what will you recommendo buy and why? we are not planning to play in any tournament soon, this is just for fun.

Rebel Aces won't be out for a while.

i see i see, so wth will you recommend then? instead of aces?

They have it on pre-order, but not in stock. They don't even estimate shipping until August.

That said, you can't go wrong with the basic X-Wing and TIE Fighter expansions.

This. An A-Wing and a B-Wing will get you the equivalent ships to tide you over until Rebel Aces comes out.

the main issue is that we dont have stores here, and mail order is the only wya to go, so we think in a big order to keep us entreteined for while

Instead of both aces.

Rebel xwing expansion

Imperial tie expansion

The extra cards that are available rock.

Then imperial aces and A/B wing.

I agree, for you the best thing is to get a extra X-Wing and Tie Fighter first. If you're trying to stay in the same budget, you could throw in a Tie Advanced for Vader and either a B-Wing, Y-Wing or A-Wing for the rebel side.

if you want to do a big money drop....

2 core sets

2 transports

1 CR-90

3 Imperial aces

3 rebel aces

3 falcons

4 Shuttles

5 HWKs

8 Ties

and 6 of EVERYTHING else

that ought to do it... lol

but by having 2 starter i got 4 ties, to add one more is just too plain for me, also i know tie advance and bombers have good cards but god i hate the models because i always hated the form the give them, i just hate both of the ships plain and simple, i only play empire cause i can use the slave 1 and that is the truth.
Regarding the content of the aces, are the cards and upgrades not worth it? i would imagine that with that expansion good cards will come with it?, or is it because first expansion are a must?, because i keep hearing buy the advance first.

Plz dot read this as me not wanting to listen to your advices, is just i not planning to play in any tournament soon and not interested in deathstar builds, jsut to have a lots of builds so i can play over and over without getting bored and i think a list full of ties is just to boring, and also i want ot stay on the budged below 120$us

Yes, the cards in Imperial Aces are worth it. You also get some different unique pilots in the X-Wing and TIE Fighter expansions, so they are worth the money. The TIE Advance is a rare imperial ship (prior to Wave 4) that has shields, and of course you get Vader.

The reason why the Tie and X-Wing expansions are highly suggested is becasue they come with some of the best pilots: Howlrunner and Backstabber for the Tie Fighter and Wedge and Garven for the X-Wing. Those 4 pilots see a lot of play in competitive build.

I would also suggest buying those 2. I would add a B-Wing for the rebels and a Interceptor for the Empire. This come to the same value you were willing to pay in your original post if you remove both Aces pack. Later you can expend with a Y-Wing and a second B-Wing for the rebels and the Imperial Aces if you liked the Interceptors.

nice advice red, that is what i was expecting a solid awnser and i will surely take into cosideration.

You've already heard most of this.

1. Rebel Aces will not be coming out for some time. If you have it as part of your order it could seriously delay when you will get it. It looks like there will be some nice stuff in it but you may want an A-Wing and B-Wing expansion to make the most of them.

2. Getting an X-Wing and TIE Fighter expansion packs is recommended because of the pilots they contain. It also helps that 3 X-Wings can be used alone but also can work well with another Rebel Fighter as well. On the Imperial side Howlrunner is often considered the "best" ship in the game and while it doesn't make a "full" swarm having 5 T/F can be great support for another Imperial ship.

3. Imperial Aces is pretty good. Not only are the two ships very helpful you get some upgrades that are widely used.

Looking at the lists here I think the Empire is sitting pretty good. You're missing the biggest TIE Fighters but four can be support for either the Firespray or a pair of Interceptors. On the Rebel side you're probably not going to be getting Rebel Aces anytime soon so that would mean finding something else there. It's hard to give a really honest answer about what would be "best" there because while I'd still recommend the X-Wing expansion any two of the Rebel fighters can be great depending on your play style and what you're going for.

As one that loves Interceptors, you can't go wrong with Imperial Aces. However, you will want to pick up at least one regular Tie Interceptor expansion for Soontir Fel, and Turr Phennier. Those two are a MUST for anyone fielding Interceptors. And yes, you will want a Tie Fighter expansion for Howlrunner and the other unique pilots.
