Post Transport XXX

By Skargoth, in X-Wing

I've never been too keen on the three X-Wing build myself, but this one really has me intrigued. I like well-rounded lists, and this one seems to synergize well. Of course, this list is new with the Rebel Transport now out.

Wes Janson / Swarm Tactics / 31

Luke Skywalker / R5-P9 / Draw Their Fire / Shield Upgrade / 36

Biggs Darklighter / R2-D2 / Shield Upgrade / 33

100 Total

I know Wedge fits in this group, but until someone experiments Wes has more group utility.

Thoughts?

I've never been to Keen either, but I hear the weather is terrific.

Already edited that, maaaannnn!

You were late by a minute. ;)

Was I to late?

I don't know. I think I still prefer wedge. Reducing the agility is pretty nice.

Removing the tl, or focus may be nice but I like the fact that with wedge if your firing at something with I agility, they get no dice

I feel like Wes improves the tankiness of the build, while also often improving the damage of his squad-mates, while Wedge has a consistent damage boost.
Wes also comes with the benefit of being able to move after Luke if desired.

Take a look at Osoroshii's thread... he has some good ideas, and made it to the top 4 with his XXX list.

Wes + VI (30 points)

Wedge + Opp + R2 (34 points)

Luke + PtL + R2-D2 (35 points)

99 total

I have seen a list with Opp on Luke as well, but I feel that is overkill. I like him being able to attack last with a TL and Focus to clean up a target that Wes painted and Wedge pummelled. If the Focus wasn't spent attacking I still have it for defense cause 2 eyes seem to come up alot with Luke for me. The 99 point total helps me get the initiative so my pilots will fire first in combat. Having the high PSs means I get to place my group last seeing where the opponent has placed thier's already.

This list has worked well for me, and will be a staple in my list of squads for awhile.

I've been running a 3X build recently that I've been having some fun with:

Wes // R3A2 / Veteran Instincts

Porkins // R5D8 / Push the Limit / Hull Upgrade

Wedge // R2 / Marksmanship

Still playing with some of the variables and upgrades, like trading out PtL for VI on Porkins so he can make activation easier. All in all it seems pretty good as long as my dice rolls don't suck.

What I'm thinking (for laughs) is

Wedge

-R2 unit

-Expert Handling

Wes

-R2 unit

-Expert Handling

Luke

-R2 D2

-Engine Upgrade

I have a list with Jek using PtL and trusty ol' R5-D8. He works suprisingly well even without a hull upgrade. I just can't bring myself to use him in a tourney....cause that is when the badside of his "orkyness" will rear it's ulgy green head!

I'm telling you out of experience that Opportunist does more damage then a focus target lock attack from an X-Wing. There is a small benefit to deciding if you need the extra punch at the time of the attack. Also if you focus on one target and Luke has the stress to get TL and Focus and the ship blows up from Wes and Wedge you have an unnecessary stress.

I can confirm that experience. I was on the receiving side of it. Stuff went boom. I cried a little.

There's no crying in X-Wing!

Khyros, are you heading to Nationals in Aug? I'd love to play you again and work out some strategies for that event.

I'm heavily leaning towards it. Don't suppose you're going to the ohio regional?

I'm hosting another x-wing event the same day i set up awhile ago. So sadly it looks like I'll be busy :( I would love to give the Opportunist Knocking list another go.

Luke+dtf+r5-d9

I was thinking of something similar

Wes +SQ LDR+ Fl. Torps + R5-P9

Garvin + FL. Torps + R2-D2

Hobbie + FL. Torps + R2-D6 + Oppertunist

I know that makes Hobbie a bit spendy but I think the 3 should work well together and I wanted to use the new stuff.

And I would love a rematch ;-) played against the list today with very different results!

not exactly XXX but I really like this list. first two rounds of attack usually yield two dead enemy ships...

http://xwing-builder.co.uk/build/72055

Attacks usually go something like this: Wes attacks and strips token. Wedge gets a target lock from dutch and is focused as his action. He is opportunistic and shoots the torpedo at wes' target for serious damage. it it isnt destroyed dutch cleans up, tempo move with the turret, or if it is a larger ship flachettes.

next round rinse and repeat. i like this list a little bit better than the 3 x's because the Ywing can use the turret for tempo control if facing squints. it also has more hull, is a torpedo wagon, and typically wont be the target initially. the build is somewhat synergistic but wont break down when either wes or wedge dies.

Did you play the same squad you play at Mr. Nice Guy Games? I'm asking not because I think my squad is unbeatable but rather what tactics I should keep an eye out for that worked for you.
