Looking for advice on Assault on Imdaar

By Zeyar, in X-Wing

Dear X-wing community members,

A couple of weeks ago I asked you all some advice on what to fly in my first tournament. Considering the ships that I own, you guys convinced me to fly HSF. I had a blast at the tournament (almost winning, if I had not gauged a maneuver incorrectly, flying my undamaged Falcon of the board when my opponent only had a single interceptor remaining).

But with Assault on Imdaar coming up, I would like to ask you guys for some advice once more, seeing as that worked out pretty well for me last time :)

Im in doubt about the following 2 lists, and I would like to ask you guys what you think. My meta seems to be intercepter and targeting computer/target lock heavy atm.

Han Solo, millenium falcon, gunner, expert handeling, chewbacca

Rookie

Rookie

OR

Han Solo, millenium falcon, gunner, chewbacca

Blue

Blue

I'm suggesting the second because I just bought 2 B-wings, but I'm in doubt if the reduced maneuverability of the B-wings, compared to the X-wing will cause problems.

Thanks in advance for any help you guys can spare :)

B-Wings are actually much more maneuverable in close given their ability to barrel roll. Their 2 K-Turn is also fantastic once you get the hang of it.

You could try and change things up a bit and try Chebacca instead of Han with whatever upgrades you want. Then instead of 2 Blue Squadron B-Wings you could upgrade to Daggers.

I've tried playing Chewbacca, but I expect to see a lot of high PS interceptors across from me, shooting before them has saved my butt more then once :) So I want to stick with Han Solo. Mostly wondering if blues really are an upgrade over rookies

With FCS, I'd say they are.

Without FCS, they feel about the same to me, except the B's are more vulnerable to focus fire.

(statistically speaking, dice will be dice after all)

If you are facing a lot of elite interceptors, I would go with the B-Wings. Three extra HP is far better against such attacks than an extra evade die. It means that they are unlikely to kill a B-Wing in the first round of fire, especially if you can table one before it shoots with Han. Of course, you might consider this:

Drop the Falcon title. Then upgrade one Rookie Pilot to a Blue Squad Pilot. Now you have 1 Rookie, 1 Blue, and Han + EH + Gunner + Chewbacca

What this man said ^

Isn't the Falcon title very effective in keeping Han alive when they try to focus him down? Its usually an extra HP every turn when I play. If the interceptors want to have a chance against HSF, won't they try to take him down first, then dance around the other ships when he's dead?

I know that's not what you meant, but I have this hilarious image in my mind now of TIE Interceptors dancing around singing, "Ding, dong, the Falcon's dead!" XD

Yes, it's an extra HP a turn. However, a focus will do the same thing if they are concentrating on Han, since it's likely one of those defense dice will be an Eye. Or you can barrel roll to escape a firing arc which is worth more. :)
