Movement and mesurement question...

By TheDarkPilot, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hey Guys,

in one of the topics in the forum came up a question how strict you are with rules in tournaments.

I was reading through the whole thing also just to get a feel for how to handle minor rule violations and stumbled across something that even i might have done wrong the whole time without even noticing or ever (not even in a tournament) get told....

If i understood right....

1) you choose your maneuver

2) you execute your maneuver

3) declare actions

ALL THESE are done without measurement, to see if you would be in range of a particular ship or not.... okay i got that

Now to the question...

Lets say my maneuver is a straight 2. My action is a barrel roll to the left...

I use my PTL and want to use it for a TL... NOW i HAVE to measure if the ship is within range of the TL.

Lets say it is not.... i would have to change my PTL action.. is that allowed or what do i do...

I was getting confused by the post since someone stated that you cant measure until combat, or should not change your action cause you are out of range...

Well, once again if a TL would not apply since im out of range can I or can I not change my action?

you declare an action, then measure (if it is a range based action) to see if it is legal. If it's legal, you must do it, if it's not legal, you are free to do another action.

eg, you declare a target lock on someone, you measure and it is outside range 3. You are then free to focus, or choose another target to lock, etc.

eg2 you declare a barrel roll to the right (hoping to get out of arc), you do the barrel roll and see you are still in arc. TOUGH, you can't take it back now that you have measured it and choose to evade etc.

Thanks for clarifying that....

I was a bit confused... especially about the measuring thing... :)
