So I'd really love to see an awesome big Imperial ship come out that I can use to lay waste to rebellious worlds from orbit, but there's another possible way to go now that we've got the transport and the corvette. Boarding missions. If you played the X-wing computer games and all that followed you've done a ton of these and they'd be great. Since we've already got the shuttle, we might not need it, although getting a Stormtrooper Transport, http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Delta-class_DX-9_stormtrooper_transport , would be cool. So do you think they might do missions based on boarding and capturing these larger ships, particularly as ions become more available to the Imperials?
An alternative/addition to huge ship slugging matches
boarding missions shouldn't be a problem, isn't there one already - not sure?
but given the range of ships already available it feasible and fitting to the theme.
interesting would be the question if you could create a regular game mechanic for standard use out of it, e.g., a crew card "boarding party"
it might get a bit complicated since it is a more involved interaction in terms of time and complexity than a simple "action/crew card resolution"
you would have to cover:
- the generic pairings: which ships can board and which can be boarded (probably symmetric)
- docking: condition for success, what limitations while docked
- the actual boarding: conditions for success and failure, perhaps a counter?
- the behavior of the acquired ship: new pilot? old pilot with restrictions?
and last but not least: make it balanced
probably would fall in the category of high risk high reward
should be doable and would be a fitting addition to the game
DX-9s are incredible. I was a little disappointed when I realized FFG passed up an opportunity to use them in the starter kits over those out of scale senator shuttles.
I'm not sure if it's worth making an actual mini out of them, but if the Imperial Huge ship needs mission-specific tokens, DX-9s on Senator shuttle templates would be awesome. They move like the Senator Shuttles, but have a firing arc forward, 2 attack, cannon proton bomb slots, and there ya go.
This way they can be targets to shoot at or stand-in bombers for either side of the players don't have them.
I'd love to see boarding missions. Truth be told I'd prefer it if FFG did Boarding craft for the empire instead of huge ships.
I have to say I never liked the DX-9 much. I'd much prefer if they did an "Imperial Assault" box with a Gamma-Class Assault Shuttle or - Transport and an Assault Gunboat.

Edited by J43G3RM31ST3RI think that a "boarding party" crew team card and a "Repel boarders" crew team card would totally work with the huge ships. And it would be awesome. Make them cause serious damage to whatever section they board, especially if the defending ship did not have the "Repel Boarders" crew team card. Allowing them to actually take over a ship might be to much, but would be awesome if it could be balanced. Maybe they could fire the main guns once before disabling it or something like that.
How about something like this
Ships may take "boarding parties" in their crew slot.
Huge ships can be boarded by large ships.
Before any boarding can be initiated all shields on the Huge ship must be destroyed
In order to initiate a boarding action the large ship must collide with a huge ship. After following normal rules for collision the large ship roll its agility dice. A singe evade result means the boarding initiation is successful.
Once boarding is initiated, place the the base of both ships flush with each other. The Huge ship may continue to move normally, but the Large ship will not take maneuvers or actions (or get any agility dice if attacked), instead it will maitain it position relative the Huge ship.
Durring the combat round after all other firing the boarding action can be resolved. Both ships get attack dice equal to the number of "boarding team" upgrades they have. (no agility dice are rolled) any hits/crits reduce the number of boarding parties on the other side.
If after all defending (on the huge ship) boarding parties are removed any additional hits/crits indicates the boarding action was successful. -what this means is determined by the mission.
If after all attacking (on the large ship) boarding parties are removed any additional hits/crits indicate the boarding action was repelled. Move the large ship away from the Huge ship (distance of 1 straight). At the begining of the next turn both ships may act as normal.
