Star Wars: The Ancient Fear (Maybe)

By FootNote, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

UPDATE: According to Dave Gonzales at Latino Review, the "Star Wars: Episode VII" working title is not "The Ancient Fear," but simply "Episode 7." Disney and Lucasfilm has still not commented on the rumor.

Like I said in the grain of salt thread, I doubt we'll hear anything solid until next July (except the New Dawn bit, which Doc, the Weasel rightly corrected me on.)

Yeah, I saw that thus the "Maybe". Of course this is just speculation but speculation is entertaining.

When I read Max Von Sydow voice acting I thought James Earl Jones (Apparently Sith Lord voice actors have 3 names) and hoped new dread evil villain.

Maybe we can hope for Mandos with that title (I thought there was a mention the main villain wasn't Sith, as unlikely as this probably will be).

Or, y'know, Abeloth. :P Especially since the Ones are canon via TCW.

can we keep the rumors of the movie out of this forum? it is quite off topic when were are suppose to be discussion EotE in here

These days so many rumors are started just to be a rumor that goes viral.

I don't think they need to be kept out of the forum. They are Star Wars and people like to think and talk about them with like minded individuals. I know I do.

While I understand being excited by new stuff, perhaps there needs to be a sticky New Movies Talk thread or something, because I kind of agree. If I wanted generic Wars chat, I'd still be hanging around The Force.net. . . .

That could be an option indeed! But it is not like the board is exactly flooded with these topics plus no one "forces" you to read them nor reply in them of course.

Good luck with that, there's **** else to talk about these days til the next EotE release. :P

Considering that the title is still a rumour of sorts, it is hars to keep them out.

No doubt, I'm dying here. I need a Smuggler splat book bad.....

I hear ya there. I really hope Smuggler and Technician are next.

Colonist is so wide open that's hard to predict. Smuggler is much easier in what to expect. I think the most surprises will come with Technician because its three specs are so broad and cover so much.

Again very much hoping they don't just port Saboteur and Scientist from AoR as 2/3 of the new Technician specs. I'd be reallllly disappointed.

No, I agree. Chemist? Does something with spice? Starship Tinkerer? Time Lord? I dunno, we will see....

I only hope they include a droid tinkerer for technician source book. Something like the doctor but for building and repairing droids.

Cybernetics then? Kind of double duty I would think.

Droid TInkerer aka a way to buff droids in the manner of Stim Application, would be a cool Signature Ability (but obviously would need to be cranked up a notch).

I hope they don't do much with the Cybernetics skill from the module. I preferred to keep it optional so it's easier to ignore.

It's a tough career to add to imo. Like I said the original specs just cover so much ground, you either have to go highly specialized I would think, organic in some fashion, or really step outside and do something like Archaeologist.

I'd love to see Scientist as a Colonist spec rather than a Technician spec.

It just seems reallllly close to Scholar for my taste. Again I worry about Careers having a set of broad Specs to the point where their focus gets watered down.

I agree. I do think it's important when they expand that they stay within the basic career descriptions. It's why I felt any sort of combat spec in the Colonist tree just wasn't appropriate the way it's worded in its write up. Colonist is so wide open I think it's easier to stay within those boundaries. Technician is tough, you got the tool guy, the hacker and the tinkerer covered, so it is tough to expand, part of why I am intrigued to see what they come up with,

I have no idea what's planned for the technician. Maybe we might see an inventor spec, who may also have access to the contraption talent, but with some other options in a different direction. Another possibility might be a chemist, and I could see the saboteur from Age being a possible Technican spec.

I'm not even going to hazard any sort of guess on the colonist, as in many ways it can be a catch all for many civilian type professions. Accountant anyone? ;)

I really hope that Technician has something akin to the Doctor but for repairing (and perhaps modifying) Droids. With a Doctor in the group, the fleshy characters were getting patched up fast after combat while the Droid was comparatively screwed. With the Medic boosting stimpacks, Droid healing looks to fall even further behind.
