I think we'll see more optional accessories with time and community request. You have to keep in mind that the last time FFG when component heavy with an rpg they received an incredible backlash from the grognard traditionalists of the day perpetually crying and complaining about how the product had been turned into a board game. Maps bad! Chits bad! Bad, bad, bad. They cry to this very day. I'm sure FFG were more interested in testing the waters this time. I would hope that with enough requests that optional boxes of tokens an maps would be made available. They would certainly be welcome in my group and the folks that are against such things can simply not purchase them.
Edited by GMmLWhere are the Star Wars FFG resources? Nothing has come out... nothing!

Traditionalists didn't object to traditional RPG components like character tokens and maps. They objected to party cards, location cards, item cards, a career card that you fit your character sheet to, ability cards that had to be 'slotted' to the career card (or was it to the character sheet... I forget), and similar bits. These were the things that I am thankful did not make it to the Star Wars RPG. I can (and do) play Edge without maps or character tokens, but those wouldn't be so bad to have as long as they are optional tools and not required components.
Heh. I haven't followed FFG enough to know what game that was
I'm not as invested in the maps as I am the tokens. It's been my experience that maps are too specific to be useful (unless I want to tailor a scene around a map, I guess, and that's just not how my head works).
So if you look at Pathfinder, you see constant releases not only of books but resources. I don't want a million Star Wars books, I'm happy with the release schedule however I want and need Star Wars resources!
Pathfinder is probably the most popular RPG on the market at the moment. Paizo can afford to release that much stuff because there's a market for it. Despite having the Star Wars name attached to it, EotE just isn't in that league.
Demand for this kind of stuff is conveyed by distributors. They give the company an idea as to how much they're willing to buy. And to be quite honest, I don't really see there being much of a market for Star Wars maps and chits. Sure, some people would buy them, but not nearly enough to make it worth the costs to do so, especially when compared to investing in another supplement.

At least, not *official* maps and tokens. The saying goes, "If you want something done right, do it yourself," so I believe that the issue as far as maps and tokens goes is for the community to resolve. A group of a dozen or so members is not enough to sway an entire company, but it is enough to create their own. And if they aren't willing to create their own, then that's that. They move on with life. As has been stated, we don't need it; we just think it may be nice (some of us, at least).
(As a side note, if anyone was, in fact, willing to create their own tokens that could be easily printed off, I'm sure the rest of us MIT appreciate to take a gander at it. I sure don't have the art skills via computer to do it, but I'd be willing to help anyone else with what I've got!)
I'll admit, I wouldn't mind seeing some more things to help 'flesh out' the game. From what Im gathering of the game itself, its kind of intended to be a sandbox game. The GM makes it up more or less as he goes along. That can make for some fun games, but when the PC's decide to go and do their own thing....it can be a little rough to get them back on track.
Would would be nice to see would be more modules/adventures, naturally. But something that listed various weapons, ships and species in the galaxy. A book giving some details into the Empire and Imperial forces would be nice, as well. Hey, some players are brave (read: dumb) enough to try and attack a star destroyer with a rattletrap freighter. Many, many years ago, FASA released a book for the BattleTech game called "Hot Spots" that listed mercenary contracts available for the PC's, and gave quick-and-dirty outlines for how each mission could develop. Something similar could work fairly well in EotE...Give a list of missions or contracts (some legit, most not), and a run down on the opposition as well as how to extend the quickie mission into a full adventure.
I personally love the abstract narrative FFG has brought to the table. My group doesn't use maps except to give an overall sense of the environment since a few of them come from D&D roots. So when I use a map I either print one as a handout for player reference or draw one on a playmat. I always remind them that there is no distance/range system and that they should RP more than crunch stats. It works great and is exactly what FFG had in mind when designing the new format for EotE and AoR. In my honest opinion it opens up more options for GMs and players when you aren't constantly counting grids and such. I would much rather have a cinematic feel than a linear measurement system constricting the life of my campaign.
Actually they have put out maps and chits. Both beginner box sets have them.
give them time. This game is less then a year old. Seriously it is LESS THEN A YEAR OLD.
*mind blown*
I am not interested in maps. Being one of the few 4th edition players that seemed to like the game I never even used the map packs for that system. Like someone above stated maps are pretty specific and I enjoy the abstract part of it so much more ...
But, I am not opposed to FFG making them. I am not the only player of this game!
DanteRotterdam - I too actually liked 4e! (and I really like 13th age now, which fixed the few problems I did have with 4e.)
Everyone who is sort of against maps for EotE seems to equate maps with counting out exact measurements for movement and such. I use maps all the time in EotE and go completely abstract with movement and range, just like if we weren't using a map. The map and minis just help with placement of individuals, status conditions, etc. It gets everyone on the same page.

I'm not...
I just don't like the fact that a map is very specific in what it offers... I prefered the dungeons tiles, for instance, a lot better (if used with blue tag on the back of a Trivial Pursuit board that is).
Edited by DanteRotterdamIf I really want maps I'll pull out the Star Wars tiles I picked up from WotC. Would I like to see a box of pawns like Paizo does? Sure. I would get that. Otherwise, though, I'm not too worried.
I just clear off an area in the center of the table and start laying out stuff and say 'this is', and 'that is'...but when I have to go digging up my old case of Necromunda figures to represent bad guys, I find myself wishing for a lot more of those little stormtrooper chits ![]()
I feel like they are putting out the RPG because they had to as opposed to wanting to. We are going to get the bare minimal in products for the game while they put out 12 different versions of tie fighters for X-Wing.

This reminds me of the reason why I typically do not use maps in EotE, I don't like breaking from the narrative to stop and set up or draw a map and lay out miniatures.
I agree all the doo dads should be a tool that aids the game not slows it down. We played the Black Sun module and the GM used the tokens in the Kelerium facility shootout, but only to aid with line of sight issues and such. We didn't use any other maps or the tokens in any other engagements, because they were simple enough it just wasn't needed.

You can't be serious...
I would never want EotE to evolve in a direction that puts emphasis on visual elements but I'm ok with maps for those who need them. I'm all for suporting those with handicaps! ![]()

Srsly?? What gave you that impression?

For the undoubted amount of cash they had to lay out for the license, I really really really doubt, they are doing it just cuz...

Minis that scream and explode so they can be heard as well as seen, I like where your head is....... ![]()

lol. Great minds...
So... My dad and brother started playing. That drew in the other two guys from my EotE group. At first, it was just a little game but then They started adding more and more ships and cards and soon there are capitol ships and aces and... It does go on quite a bit. But I don't think that's because EotE is the black sheep.
The rules are done and the models all have their looks so, I'm guessing, it is EASY to put out new ships. Meanwhile, the rpg books require quite a bit more work so they come out slower. You can't just slap a new cover on the crb, include a new rule and present a brand new product and expect people to but it. So I think that's probably partially why Zar might feel likemhendoes.

Especially if you look at the quality of the game.

Of course, and as far as the minis for X-wing go, of course they are going to release a bevy of them, they are guaranteed money. Pennies to produce those things and huge profits. I want FFG to be successful so they will grudgingly put out more of this half ass EoE crap............... ![]()
