Talisman The Woodland Expansion!

By Nemomon, in Talisman

Hey, GG,

Yes, and I've mentioned it before without great fanfare. I don't want it to be an irritant or exclusive/inclusive factor, because I love Talisman and posting here too.

I've been A Witch or Wiccan, if you will, since my 15th year, around 1971 ("America's First Teen Witch?").

I take credit for being a founding member or factor in the Detroit area Wiccan and Pagan community, around 1987.

I've been a "legal" Witch since 1999, or so, when I joined the oldest and largest Wiccan Professional Clergy organization in the US, Covenant of the Goddess (www.cog.org) - I am legally credentialed as a priest; I've performed at least a dozen legal 'hand-fastings' (weddings) and several funeral services. Not all of these were for people like me; I've also performed weddings and funerals for Christians (My niece - - -twice...).

If you wish to converse more on this, you may write me at [email protected].

Cheers.... and Blessed Be!

Thats very interesting.

If you ever come to the UK make sure you visit Boscastle in Cornwall where they have the world famous Witchcraft museum.

Also Burley in the New Forest, Hampshire where there is a strong Wiccan link. In fact you have probably heard of Sybil Leek who was Englands most famous witch back in the 50's. She emigrated to the states for a quieter life. Her old house is a fabulous Witchey themed curio shop. Tarot readings are also done there.

Cheers!

I know of these things, quite well.

When I was 12 years old (creepy little kid, wasn't I?) I read Diary of a Witch by Sybil Leek. That was the, ummm, THE book that informed me I was a Witch (well I still had to learn more, but that book sang to my 12 year old spirit, seeking something).

I've been a Tarot reader for over 40 years, semi professional, or more. I've read for thousands of people. In any given year I still read for a dozen people, but as friends or for friends. I read to benefit various charities, including HIV, Homeless/abused women, etc.

New Forest and England in general is on my bucket list.

I am hoping FFG will post the rules soon so we can start using dark fate.

YEAH!!

Come visit the town of Glastonbury in th UK Oberon! You will be in your element and of course you can join us for a game of Talisman!!!

I actually have a newer friend, A Witch of the Alexandrian tradition (Alex Sanders, a sorta friend/contemporary of Gerald Gardner, The Old Man), who hales from Glastonbury.

Also I believe that Pagan recording artist Damh The Bard is from Glastonbury, or near enough.

Having said that, I'm not a good traveler (motion sickness problems) but I want the UK to be in my bucket list, so you never know!

So, now that we know its shipping and expected in about 9 days, who thinks there will be more previews?

We should get one about the characters, more details, etc. Right? And then they usually print the rules too.

So who thinks what, will happen when?

0beron, what do the cards say? ;)

Oh you rascal! Well, I just can't resist taking a look, so I ran upstairs and got my Tarot. I have a method for 'yes' or 'no' questions.

"Will we get a preview by Friday, the 12th?"

The cards say most likely NO. 1 out of 3 chance for yes. Included in the reading was the reversed 10 of Swords, next to the upright 10 of Coins. The meanings, as I see it (not necessarily pertaining to the question, but...) an overthrow of forces against you/us versus the sense of legacy, inheritance, family solidarity.

Probably NO, but as a family, expecting our inheritance or legacy (the Woodland expansion) we will overcome the forces against it. We'll deal with it, basically, since it mostly going to be no preview by Friday.

And of course I expect to be shellacked by you all if it does come to pass. But isn't that the fun of this?

Your cards were right. The preview did not come out on Friday the 12th! ;-)

... right before FFG closed their office... ;)

I like the rule about only being able to move counterclockwise unless instructed to, or fleeing. But I'm surprised the designers didn't at least consider a fork (i.e., two paths that rejoin) to break up the linear design; this would help differentiate between the Woodland versus Dungeon and Highland layouts.

Then again, perhaps the Woodland (or even Path) cards will make this feature irrelevant and the pattern of moving will be more varied than I imagine. Any thoughts?

Well I did really say 'by' the 12th, so not right, really.

Its one time I don't mind being wrong. Ahhhh the hubris of playing with Fate (snort, literally)

Hmm? The rules make it sound like you can enter and leave, move backwards and forwards freely, like in Dungeon and Highland. Where do you see that you can only move forward?

Moving only forward is an alternative rule, at the end of the rulebook.

So now we have four regions (as I see it):

-Highlands = weak-mid strength monsters, good gold gains, 1 in 4 chance of being able to teleport in the inner region and win the game (Arknell)

-Dungeon = More monsters, better strength+Craft gains, certain chance of getting teleport in the inner region and win the game (Cloak of feathers)

-City = Weapons + items, bow, mule. Worth going to if need to beef up.

-Woodlands = Permanent Ability gains. Worth going to if you don't have gold and need to beef up?

We don't use the city a lot and hopefully the destiny rewards make it worth going to the woodlands.

Just got an e-mail from FRP Games. My order is in transit! Should arrive Friday or Saturday!

JandJ games has mine arriving on Thursday - and even better we have a 6 player "Woodland in the Woodland" scheduled for the weekend - outdoor Talisman in the woods - what could be more fitting?!

XD nice. What did you do when the dungeon came out?

Well depending on the age of player, they may live in a dungeon, err Basement?

I was mistaken. According to the USPS Mail Tracker I should be receiving it this afternoon with the mail delivery!

There are 2 auctions on Ebay for it.
