Rebel Transport: Is it a Limited Edition Release?

By flopcardboard, in X-Wing

Heard a rumor from my FLGS today, that the Rebel Transport is a Limited Release, and won;t see a reprint.

Has anyone else heard of this rumor, or perhaps a statement by FFG saying it is or isn't true?

sweet good thing i got 14 or them!!! EBAY here I come... cha Ching Cha ching!!! :)

No not really.... But i did remember seeing Ys listed for 200 at one time.... just crazy!!

FFG doesn't do limited edition's. At least not for X-Wing, they've said this before. They have no intention of stopping production of all X-Wing ships until they stop making the game completely.

The thing I hate the more about FFG is the order X amount if each expansion from the makers, low amounts so the risk of losing money is low, and takes as many preorders from stores as they can, knowing they won't be able to fill them, then not tell the retailer the exact number they will get till a week or so before it ships to the retailer.

This is not a limited edition thing. There will be more, but it may be a while. I grabbed one right away, not taking any chances with the CR-90 either.

It may not always be in stock, at times re-prints can take a while (the lead time from order to store shelves is many months), but as VandorDM said, FFG has made it very clear they are not doing limited editions. The only limited production type items are the promo items in the game night kits, or tournament kits (like the alternative art cards, or acrylic tokens). That's why you see that stuff selling on eBay for silly amounts.

This was my impression as well; which is why the rumor of a true LImited Edition release scared me.

I think I've seen that rumor reported for wave 3 and Imperial Aces as well. Most likely not by the same person of course... I think people jump to conclusions when the stock on the shelf isn't quite as high as they expected.

Because of the package size and sticker price, most stores aren't going to have THAT many in stock - so they are likely to sell out quickly. As a result, many people may have to wait around for reprints... which might not be until next year.

This. A "limited edition" is a marketing gimmick that helps drive up demand for a product--but FFG already has a higher demand for X-wing minis than they can typically meet, so I doubt they'd do it.

Nah. The costs of setting up the production runs is too exorbitant to do limited editions. I suspect it will see fewer print runs, though, as they're less prone to breakage, and most people will probably only acquire one (if that), so the economies of scale may not justify keeping it in print at some point.

They are in this to make money and be successful. They'll stop printing roughly when they stop selling. I could very well imagine an immediate shortage for this product, as it's a new type of play and expensive and they would want to gauge interest/demand for the epic ships, but they'll continue to produce as long as there's a market for it. There's absolutely a reason this is paired with an X-wing and some hot new pilots as a way to transition existing players into epic and provide an incentive for those on the fence about epic to commit to the big ship purchase. They aren't dumb with how they've marketed this product.
