Speculative Imperial "Huge" ship

By steelhelix, in X-Wing

I still can't believe no one has said Skipray Blast Boats as 1 Point Epics.

Does the Millennium Falcon have an epic rating? (Sorry if this is an absurd question. I'm a n00b)

No. Only the Transport and Tantive IV have. Only Huge Ships get Epic Points. Millennium Falcon, Shuttle and Firespray are considered Large Ships.

I assume the epic point rating is in relation to firepower and support ability. If the CR90 was the size of the falcon but had the same power and abilities it currently does it should still cost 3 epic points.

Well I think the obvious would be to look past the Imperials for the dark side ships. They have already laid the groundwork with Slave 1. Not an Imperial ship by any means but there it is. We could see any of the bounty hunter's ships. Bossk's Hounds Tooth, Hutt junker, or any number of Scum and Villainy ships that would steal my money.

My hopes are for the Dreadnaught Cruiser. Comparable to the size of the Corellian Corvette, maybe a little larger. Perhaps being 4 Epic points in cost.

Dreadnaughts are four times the length of a CR90. Hardly what I would consider "comparable".

I am thinking a good ship from the old roleplaying game is the IPV-1 System Patrol Craft. Not the awful looking . . . potato-thing from the video games:

but the more elegant ship from the Imperial Sourcebook:

I assume the epic point rating is in relation to firepower and support ability.

It doesn't actually seem that way.

Consider that the Transport is 2 points and has some support ability but not a ton, much of the support powers come from cargo, which the CR-90 can hold as well.

The CR-90 is 3 points and has a pretty massive amount of firepower compared to the none that the Transport does.

The epic points seem to be nothing more then a way to control how many ships you can have on the table at one time. Also seeing how the team epic rules has a point limit of 3 per player, I don't know that we'll ever see a 4-5 point ship, unless they're willing to increase the point limit.

Of course it won't happen because they're too similar, but I kind of liked the modified corvettes that the Empire tended to have in Tie Fighter and subsequent games

I hope it's not the Star Galleon....

Posted elsewhere, may as well post here as well:

BFF-1 Bulk Freighter or Container Transport:

http://starwars.wiki...ainer_transport

(or a modular, snap-fit box set that can build either of them or four individual cargo containers. I'd like to see these not just because they're the stock Imperial equivalent to the GR-75, but because they would be really handy to replace some of the tokens currently used in the objective games.)

Mobquet Medium Transport:

SCT Long-Range Scout Craft:

Gozanti Cruiser:

Vigil-Class Corvette:

Incidentally, I would absolutely LOVE to see a Strike-Class Medium Cruiser for the Imperials, but I accept that it is a: far too big and b: not well-known enough to be a really strong candidate for production. I do however think it's modular design would work well with the fore/aft card mechanics (possibly adding a midship into the mix as well).

Maybe a candidate for a personal building project, somewhere down the line...

Oh look, just what the gunmetal cosmic wanger needed. Space butt-eggs.

Some thoughts from my observations:

The Skipray Blastboat is likely to be a large ship (Like the Falcon and Firespray). In addition, the Skipray is noted to be a more expensive, but powerful, starfighter that is borderline transport (i.e. Large).

Huge Ship Hypothesis:

The two that immediately come to mind for the Imperial side is the Lancer Frigate and the Imperial Galleon/Star Galleon. Another one that could be brought in from the EU is the Carrack-class Light Cruiser.

Unfortunately, the Lancer and the Carrack are hovering around the 250/350 meter lengths, respectively.

One idea is for an Imperial Version of the Corellian Corvette and/or the Corellian Gunship. This can save money redesigning the ships and allow a ready to use Huge ship. The downside is reusing a model already in the system.

Another that just occurred is for there to be actual models of the Shuttle from the core set and other objects/defenses.

What do you all think?

Really? That was your overriding impression from those pictures? Mine was "Aluminum Space Mouse" but, y'know, each to their own I guess...

That's what I would have figured. I was thinking because the Skipray isn't that big. I know that the D6 roleplaying game lists it as being a capital ship at fighter/small transport size because of the power output. But it's just small. This is what Sarone also pointed out (beating me to the punch).

That said, I'd like to see the Skipray developed for the game.

As far as the huge ship, I just don't really like the idea of Corellian gunships as part of the Imperial Navy. I'm sure they saw service here or there, but they don't seem to me to have been so regular as to be featured as such in X-Wing.

So far, I still posit that we may see Epic only large ships.

I agree with this sentiment entirely, hence the extra paragraph on the BFF-1 Bulk Freighter suggestion above. I posted a topic with some suggestions for objectives/defenses/obstacle models to replace the tokens currently used a while back, it's something I'd definitely like to see.

On the subject of large Imperial ships however, I think anything over 300 meters long is probably too large for a starfighter skirmish game, even with the epic rules, and the early pictures of the Corvette and Transport in action have reinforced this opinion for me. I don't want to see ships going too far out of scale with the rest of the range, and I don't want to see capital ships brought into the game for the sake of it with only a fraction of their abilities. Fortunately there's a fair few Imperial ships under the 300 meters mark which might fit the bill...

According to Galactic Empire Data Banks, the Corellian Gunship did see some service in the Imperial Navy. However, probably due to rebel sympathies, it was not extensively used.

That being said, it was not uncommon for there to be Imperial versions of the Corvette/Gunship. The only problem is that, once again, it'll be a reused model for ship we already have.

If anything, from the Wookiepdia and GEDB, the Skipray Blast boat might be around the same size as the HWK. I can see this be an Imperial Ship as it can also be equipped with a turret, giving the Empire at least one turret vehicle.

Edit:Ha, 'ed by gecko. Totally missed your post above

Assuming FFG is going to release some sort of Imperial transport equivalent (probably a bad assumption), I'd like to see the BFF1 bulk freighter. I played the video games a ton and would like to see this ship as the GR-75 counterpart

bff_1_bulk_freighter_by_kendalldarkmere-

As far as a ship with some firepower, I can't really come up with anything outside a Vigil and a Lancer (I don't mind the aesthetics of the Lancer). Shrinking the scale of those two don't really bother me as they have not really shown up many places. If FFG said 'The [whichever ship ] is 150 or so meters,' wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

An assassin class corvette is ok I guess, the problem is that it is basically the same as the CR-90. I'd rather the sides have more of a different look to them.

Don't underestimate the power of the mighty space butt-egg.

Hound's Tooth isn't big enough to be Huge: Starwars.com lists it under 50m (47.4), only about a third longer than the Falcon and less than half the length of the Gallofree. Most of the bounty hunter ships would be Large or even fighter-sized, I think...

Ignoring the ship that must not be named...

I would like to see the Gozanti Cruiser. It seems likely, especially with the Rebels tie in now.

I would also like the Imperial Commando Escort Carrier. Those were fun to blow up in Rogue Squadron III.

i forgot completely about those things. Man, they would be pretty aggressive compared to the transport or blockade runner.

Never seen that ICEC before. That one would be fine with me.

From the upcoming Rebels TV series I could see the Empire modded Gozanti carrier ship working since it's nice and small. It's also on their Empire recruitment poster

I saw Sunflower Seed Kernels myself, but meh...
