Speculative Imperial "Huge" ship

By steelhelix, in X-Wing

Given the possibility of 1-5 Epic points for huge ships and a transport being 2, it seems somewhat likely that a single point epic ship might eventually come out. With the rules for cloaking now revealed from the Phantom, a thought crossed my mind...

The Rogue Shadow.

A cloakable 1 point Imperial ship. It wasn't terribly well armed, and it's just about twice the length of the YT-1300. Seems to me that it'd be an interesting idea for a custom, if nothing else.

Shadow's more likely as a Large.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say there will be no Huge ship for the Empire. Why? Because the Empire doesn't work that way in the movies. They have three sizes of ships: Standard 1 or 2 person fighter, Transport class, and FREAKING, OMG, that's no moon, Gigantic! The pitiful Rebels are the ones throwing guns on large transport and freighter class ships. The Empire has military juggernauts.

That being said, I do believe there will be an Epic answer to the Rebels two HUGE ships (not that the Empire needs an answer as Bombers are going to have a field day). If not ships, then what? Maybe it will be part of a space station that effects the fighting going on in the play field near it.

I'm also fully willing to admit that I could be totally wrong, but just hoping that FFG will be more creative than trying to find something that fits a Huge ship for the Empire.

When the rebel vs empire rpg book comes out, that will be the best way to guess what ships of the right scale FFG is looking at.

Stone,

There were rather a lot of imperial ships smaller than star destroyers. They had patrol boats, and frigates and both sides used nebuloun B cruisers. It wouldn't simulate a full up engagement but I can absolutely see a run supplies past the local patrol scenario.

I realize if we go out into the EU, we find this kind of stuff. I'm pointing out that just isn't the feel of the Empire in the movies. What the Rebels (in this game) are calling huge ships, the Empire uses to haul cargo and supplies.

That being said, the two HUGE ships for the Rebels ARE transport and personnel freighters. In the Civil War, the Rebels are always shown on the defensive. (except for the second Death Star battle... but even that was a trap) The Empire would not send transport ship into harms way. As the aggressors (and that is how they play in this game) they would only send military units. The Empire thought so little of the Rebel's attack on the first Death Star that they didn't even launch a counter attack. They just used the defense systems of the station itself. It was Vader who took it upon himself to go out with his Black squad.

But again, bombers and ties are all the Empire feels it needs in these space battles. I also again state I could be wrong about FFG's Epic plans for the Empire. Just my two cents.

Have you guys seen the trailer for the new cartoon, Star Wars: Rebels? There is an imperial ship there that looks similar to the transport in size.

Ignoring the ship that must not be named...

I would like to see the Gozanti Cruiser. It seems likely, especially with the Rebels tie in now.

I would also like the Imperial Commando Escort Carrier. Those were fun to blow up in Rogue Squadron III.

The Gozanti would be nice. However, isn't it civilian?

Some ships that - size-wise - could be replicated as models of about the same size as the CR-90 are:

IPV-1 System Patrol Craft

It's not the prettiest thing, but it is certainly quite common.

There's the Bayonet-class light cruiser (image here ), which I quite dislike.

Despite it's shape, I would still like to see them do the Lancer (discussed elsewhere here) or the Tartan-class cruiser .

The Rebels version has 4 TIE's docked to it, so I will say there is definitely an Imperial Navy version.

4 points for Star Destroyer

5 points for Super Star Destroyer

I vote for the Storm Commando Imperial Escort Carrier from Rogue Squadron 3. Its a good size compared to the transport, and in light of Imperial military doctrine that was previously commented on, it has guns, while the transport has none. Thus we can see the contrast between the two factions.

I like how the game has managed the difference so far. A tie fighter is not an X wing, and interceptor is not exactly like an A wing, the bomber is not like the Y wing or B wing. They have their similiarities, but they perform different functions.

So I dont expect there to a an Imperial transport that doesnt have any guns, which does pretty much the same thing as the rebel transport. Nor the same for the corvette.

I don't have any clue on the Imperial ship, but my general wishlist would be a ship that can fire devastating broadsides to fulfill my pirate fetish. Side arcs FTW!

Gotta be an ISD. Its just gotta.

I have a bad feeling about this

I'm hoping for the Vigil-class corvette. It's got the Imp wedge shape but would fit on the table. Not much room to spare, but it would fit.

I believe that is supposed to be a Gozanti Cruiser. I could certainly see that as a 3 point huge ship.

Isn't the Gozanti only 41.8m? That would make it half the size of the transport. Maybe 1 epic point, or it might be even qualified to be a large ship like the falcon...

4 points for Star Destroyer

5 points for Super Star Destroyer

You just had to say it, didn't you?

I give this thread a day if not a few hours to turn into yet another debate/argument thread.

I sense a disturbance in the Force. As though millions voices cried out in pain, then were silenced.

I still can't believe no one has said Skipray Blast Boats as 1 Point Epics. This would allow Gozanti Cruiser to have an epic cost as well.

I feel people are getting to hung up on Epic being solely a size scale and forgetting it might simply be away to added Capital Capabilities to the game.

I want the Death Star, 1 & 2, a Super Star Destroyer, Imperial class Star Destroyer, the Sun Crusher, the USS Enterprise, that wooden ship that the half-Bothan flew in, Cylon Basestar, Iranian F14s, space dildos, Lucrehulk Droid a Control Ship and any of the ships from Battle Beyond the Stars

NB: please take the above with a pinch of salt

Which Enterprise?

My favorite is E. Add to that the Defiant, which I like more and is big enough. Babylon 5 and Deep Space Nine for other Space Station options.

EDIT: to be serious though, I like the idea of the the ship from Battlefront II. It's been a few years since I played the game, but from what I remember it was about the same size as a CR-90. Or at least it appeared to be while I blasted it into oblivion.

Does the Millennium Falcon have an epic rating? (Sorry if this is an absurd question. I'm a n00b)
