Worst game ever.

By That One Guy, in X-Wing

So tonight was the climactic finish to my X-wing league.. or it would have been if i could roll anything worth a crap. First game of the night, i rolled blanks on my evades 5 times in a row (Against Lando, no less). The second game (the official league match) was just as bad, including having a Firespray ioned off the board over the course of three turns. Again, it took until about the fourth round of combat for me to cancel even a single point of damage, and the third round to land even a single point of damage (which of course was from missiles). I have never rolled so poorly in my life. Really left a sour taste in my mouth, especially for a game night i'd been looking forward to for weeks.

Still, took second in the league and got my Mauler Mithel and Gold Squadron special cards, and a few acrylic stress tokens throughout the league. Didn't really care about winning the rebel pendant, but losing in such a profoundly rubbish fashion would put a damper on anything.

Did you remember that a Firespray takes 2 Tokens to be Ioned? If that was the case that really sucks that your dice were that cold, its never fun being the guy with the cold dice or even playing the guy with cold dice because it takes the fun away, The close games are the ones that are really worth winning otherwise it isn't very fun.

That is frustrating. There isn't even any advice to give. Sometimes the random goes overboard.

Better now than at regionals?

Well, the dice do suck on occasion, but we all know this, so not worth getting upset about (for more than about 30 minutes...provided you introduced those dice to your hammer). You're a gamer, you do have a dice hammer, yes?

;p

I still think I hold the record for a bad dice roll, and come close with run of luck.

Single bad roll:

Wedge (no shields, but full hull) TL and focus. Nose to nose with Dagger Squad with stress (no adv sensors) with 1 hull remaining.

Last 2 ships left ..... he won the game.

2nd was my escalation tourney on the weekend. At 120 points.

We both went in with XXBB.

He killed XXB in 2 rounds of shooting. 2 shots to kill Biggs despite being R3, Asteroid, R2-F2 and stealth device. and 2 shots for no shield on B. Next round finished B and killed X with some nasty rolling.

The fourth round at GenCon last year, I had two Krassis/Bounty Hunter/Dark Curse and my opponent had (IIRC) Wedge/Luke/Biggs/Prototype. We came straight at each other in a good old-fashioned joust, and why not? I had a ton of hp, an HLC with a reroll, and Seismic Charges to boot.

He proceeded to roll hits or crits on every die, and I rolled no evades at all, meaning I lost my Bounty Hunter before it even attacked. When I punched back with Krassis' mighty HLC, I did a total of 1 damage. After that it was all over except for the copious weeping.

Sometimes the dice god just hates you.

Or your sacrifice wasn't quite fresh (or virgin) enough... ;p

Time to get some new dice? Our LGS tournament proctor usually gives last place some new dice so they can retire the bad ones.

Yes. He had two turreted y-wings, and i was never able to avoid a single one of their ion shots. for three rounds.

Yes, Blood for the Dice gods!

just joking :P

Just thinking about your RNG makes me want to pull my own hair out.

My RNG?

It stands for "random number generator," or any of a handful of other similarly worded expressions. Basically, you got shafted by pure dumb luck.

Yeah, tell me about it. But who knows, maybe I'm just using up all my rotten luck so I can have a great AoIA event. That's gonna be so awesome!

I was teaching my daughter to play. She made a maneuver error early in the game and had an xwing with three ties, 1 fighter and 2 ceptors at range 1 and out of arc. Being the good parent I spent about three minutes talking with her about planning for the oponent's movement, and how that x-wing was probably doomed, all the ties were focused.. Then I managed to roll blanks, lots and lots of blanks. Nothing hit the X at all.

So then we spent some time laughing about how sometimes no matter what you do the dice undo it.

Then her Falcon blew one of the interceptors out of space.

In my first game of a Store Championship I am playing 4 Interceptors all with Stealth Device. I am facing 3 Blue B's and Dutch.

Second turn, we open fire. I shoot 16 dice and score a paltry 3 damage !!!!

My opponent shoots 15 dice, I roll maybe 1 or 2 evades total and he gets enough damage and crits to kill ALL 4 of my ships.....

That was my worst game ever. Bloody funny, but terrible luck.

When you first met, she was but the learner. Now she is the master.

Getting her there. She show promise, until her patience runs out.
