Hey Imperial players...

By Radzap, in X-Wing

Are you guys lamenting the fact that the Empire doesn't have more platforms that are capable of carrying Torpedoes?

Tie Bombers are cool but they are so specialized for ordinance delivery. The Slave-1 title is unique so you can't have multiple Sprays with torps.

I'd really like a ship that is medium/heavy that can mount a torpedo and then enter the fray on equal footing with an X-Wing. Why must there be a torpedo gap?

This may be to somewhat bolster the bomber, they are specialized, but with this option they can pack two torps without paying such a huge amount. They arent awful even after delivery, either.

It will all change in Wave 5. When the Imperials get the Assault Gunboat and Skipray Blastboat. With Munitions Failsafe cards.

Fwoooosh fwoooosh fwoooosh BOOM.

Not really since there isn't a lot of call to run ordinance in this game. Usually your points are better spent on equipment that can be reused.

The Imperial players should be rubbing it in the Rebels' faces that the Bomber is the only ship that is cost effective at running Torps. They are often a waste on X-wings, and Y-wings are better served by a turret. The idea of a 26 point ship with 6 hull and both a Torp and an Adv. Torp is just scary.

Forum ordinance 1138:

When describing torpedoes and missiles, they shall be hereafter referred to as ordnance.

Personally, I think the missiles are better than the torpedoes anyway. TL+F on concussion I believe is better than a proton.

Not really. There is still a wider variety of Missiles than Torpedoes. The Flechette Torpedoes are nice, sure. But the Proton and Advanced Torpedoes are not that much better than the variety of Missiles available.

Until they come out with a 2 point missile, Flechette Torpedoes FTW.

And Bombers are just fine for delivering them. Scimitars plus 2 Flechette torpedoes and a Seismic Charge for 22 points ain't shabby.

Probably not as mad as Rebel players about the fact that they have NOTHING with a bomb slot.

Flechette Torpedoes are nice. No question.

But, would you rather have the option to take Flechette, Proton, or Advanced Torpedoes, or the option to take Assault, Ion Pulse, Homing, Cluster, or Concussion Missiles?

Flechette Torpedoes are nice, but don't outweigh the variety of Missiles we currently have.

With all the other options Imperials have like 8 TIE swarms and specialized Interceptor builds I've never found myself needing torpedoes. Gunning down transports and Corvettes will probably do more for bombers than anything.

Rebels currently have a dearth of missile bays (A-Wings are too expensive, and only fools put them on high-powered YT-1300s). However, they are swiftly gaining the Z-95 Headhunter, which is a dastardly beastie.

We have torpedo slots cheaper than they can afford, and gain more use out of single-target damage, as they run fewer ships.

We have the bombs. We have the Assault Missiles. We have the numbers-advantage.
I do not fear torpedoes.

I am, however, rather irked at our dearth of droids and turrets. Our superior piloting falls too often to their superogatory aiming

I like the 'gaps' between the factions. Makes the two sides different to play. Imps have more defense dice and barrel roll/evades. Rebs have turrets and more torps and target locks.

Zactly. What's the point in picking a faction if they were identical?

Overall I like missiles better. The only ship in the game where I prefer torpedoes to missiles is Bombers. Usually you wanta TL +F before firing ordnance, so concussion missile is superior to proton torpedo. On the bomber Jonus gives two rerolls a blank turning into a hit vs an eye turning into a crit have the same chance of happening, but the crit is slightly better than the hit.

True, but I lament not having Droids and turrets.

In our defense, only the Slave-1 ships and Tie bombers have bomb slots.

Personally I have no problem with not having much access to torpedoes. I have a soft spot for Concussion Missiles, since they generally reduce an enemy ship to nothing but soft spots. Gooey, explodey soft spots.
